Winter projects

pulling it from the floor was pretty easy, just had to remove a bunch of snaps that had been screwed in for carpet runners. it might have been glued at one time but i guess over time it had come loose. the hatches were a different story, i spent maybe and hour removing the carpet from them just to find out they won't work with the new flooring which is basically a LVT with a hardwood look. not a problem though, i'll make new ones and forge on.

yes it is a glue down floor. no subfloor or luan for the main cabin area, i'll be using a combination of a leveling compound and sander to get the floor smooth/level. i expect that it will take a bit of time too.

If my boat doesn't sell in the spring and I Take it off the market that's one of the projects I am considering maybe replace the carpet with some kind of faux teak and Holley. Are you doing around the dinette and in the aft cabin area too or just the main cabin floor.

i've already completed the flooring in the mid cabin area and i'm now working on the main cabin area. i am still undecided on doing the dinette area and steps at the v berth. i kinda like the carpet under my feet while eating so i'm leaning towards carpet in that area. as far as the v berth steps, i guess i'll make a decision once the main floor is done. i've looked at several boats and there really doesn't seem to be preference of one way or the other. since i'm doing it myself, i guess it'll be whatever the admiral and i decide. one thing is for sure, carpet is WAY easier than solid flooring. they make a carpet that looks like teak and holly, that might be a good option for you since you are selling. that way you wouldn't have a crap ton of labor and money invested and it would still look pretty good.

thanks again to Chris @ Formula, the rest of my new switches arrived so i've been able to pretty much wrap up another one of my dash panels. the trim panel around the throttles has been re worked and is ready to be wired up and installed. new volt gauge will be set up to read either the port or starboard engine via a switch as will the new fuel gauge. middle switches will be for trim tabs.

Cabin stairs have been stripped of old carpet, new tread cut for top step, bottom step was removed and changed to a storage lid so that the space beneath it could be used for storage. top step tread that was removed was re purposed for the bottom step storage compartment floor. new carpet install has started on stair unit. new floor hatches have been cut and are ready for final test fitting. hatch screws in floor presented a minor problem, they need to be removed before the new floor is installed. this was accomplished by installing stainless t nuts from the top and i recessed them into the floor so that everything would be level. then the screws can be installed from the bottom instead of the top. really hoping to make good headway on this project in the next week or so, the admiral is getting excited to see what it is going to look like.

new flooring for stairs has been laid out and is ready for install. once the adhesive has cured i'll trim all the edges and install another piece of trim on the edge of each tread to finish everything off. new floor hatches fit pretty good but i still wanna do a little bit of sanding on the edges before i call them done. new flooring will be laid out on the hatches next since that is where i'll be starting from as far as the rest of the main cabin floor is concerned. i'm thinking it is important to make sure the new flooring is lined up perfectly on the hatches so that might take a bit of extra time.

HA i thought a little extra storage was a good idea so i went with it. it was pretty easy to do but i don't know if it would be worth the time to make the modification for no more space than you get. it just seemed like a good idea since i was doing a re work anyway. i have a few items in my helm storage that i'd like to put in here when it is finished, gotta claim it before the admiral does! :D

FT,
I have lots of small stuff in the factory step storage. They always find their way to the bottom of it. I'm going for the mod.

we use the factory compartment as a liquor cabinet. keeps it out of sight when we have young ones on board, which isn't very often these days but it is still a pretty convenient spot. keeps everything nice and secure too. let me know if i can help ya with any questions about it.

final fitting of new floor hatches is done, they are good to go. need to lay out the new flooring on these hatches next. once that is done, the stair treads and hatches will get the new flooring installed. progress seems slow but at least it is moving forward.

FT,
Thanks for the offer. I added step storage to my last boat that the boat designer didn't bother to include. Pretty straight forward
mod.

new dash panel is getting close to completion, decided to work on it for a bit and take a break from the flooring while the temps are so cold.
