Mag-Hytech diff cover for more fluid capacity and heat dissipation, 10 bolt 19.5 wheels to run an F rated 12 ply tire.

I did the same by adding an aluminum cover on my diff, and I did my trans too. Used the deep, finned pan from TCI for cooling on my 4L80 trans.

Tires are still "E" rated. I don't have anything heavy enough (Yet ;D) to change that.

Nice rig ;D ;D I like it. The GM community is well represented here ;D ;D ;D

Thanks, and I have always been a Chevy guy, but if they dont have something to compete with the new F450, 8-10 months from now I may switch to Ford. I just want to see what the motor in the Ford does the first year. The F450 is really nice loaded up and can trailer more than the 3500.

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

The duramax won't let you down but the new Ford engine already has. Production of the new Power stroke has been suspended and the news letter I read said this is expected to be indefinately. The 7.3L was just fine till Ford tried to tweak it up and make it smaller. Dealers are clamoring to get old trade ins just to make sales. Dealer called my dad to convince him to trade in his 01 dually. While i'd love to see him get rid of the Ford he told the dealer that they didn't have anything that could compare to the old 7.3L so he had no reason to trade.
Yea I know that the new fuel standard is what drove the changes but trying to spin a diesel up to 5K or 6K rpms was a disaster. That dumb idea cost them in the corporate pocket. Now it has been scrapped.
I haven't heard what Ford plans to do but something better happen fast or the advertising fallacy about the highest truck sales will be a very old joke soon.

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

Interesting replies here!! Bigger is always better I thought. I have a 2004 GMC Yukon XL (Suburban) 3/4 ton 4X4 with the 8.1L. with 4.10 gears (max towing is 12,000#). I bought it to haul my muscle cars on trailers and it was excellent. No hesitance what so ever! Then I got into boating and used it to tow the 25' Century cabin cruiser which is twice as heavy as the car and trailer...no problems. I recently purchased a Formula 29PC and a tri axel Loadmaster trailer and have yet to pull the boat out of the water and trailer it, but am expecting no problems as long as the 4X4 is on.

Before my 04 GMC, I had a 99 Chev 3/4 ton 4X4 Suburban with the 7.4L. Good to SUV but the drum brakes made for long stops. The 04 has 4 wheel disks and is definetly noticeable (all my trailers also have brakes).

Was looking at the Fords turbo diesels but have to see how the GMC pulls the boat out first.

BADBUOYS,
HOPE YOUR TRUCK HAS AN ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER TO OPERATE THE BRAKES ON THE LOADMASTER. REMEMBER, ELECTRIC BRAKES WORK GOING BACKWARDS. HATE TO SEE YOUR CHEVY UNDER WATER AT THE RAMP FROM BEING PULLED IN BY THE BOAT.

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

in a previous post you said the 3500 did fine.......apparently that changed? Why?

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

Actually, the 3500 does good. I had it up for sale, but then pulled my boat today with it again and I really like the 3500. I am still getting a Freightliner on Monday, but I am going to try it for 60 days before selling my dually.

I also drove a F450 today and I like my 3500 better as well. The F450 did have a bigger back seat though and sat up a little higher.

1999 JEEP Cherokee, yup the little one with the 4.0 in-line six. Believe it or not, I towed my new 206 spider all the way from the coast of California to Nashville, Tennessee with no problems except trailer wiring issues. The only things not stock on the JEEP are the rear air shocks and add-a-leaf load helpers.

It was this;

Now with less stress and more comfort it's this F450;

Here is my set up. 2000 Burb 5.3 and 1990 242ls on a 2007 McCain trailer which mad a noticeable difference over the old steel trailer. I did not pull with the old steel long enough to compare gas mileage. I can feel and see the difference in RPMs to maintain speed limit.

Got no pics....don't want any evidence!
2001 Excursion towing 08 31PC
4" lift
Edge chip with attitude
NAV
DVD
20's

Won't win any land speed records...does 55-60 on freeway
Oversize load sign on back of boat
Probably should have permits

04 Nissan Titan w/Tow package. 2WD pulls it and stops with no problems, of course we dont have hills in Louisiana either.

I have a 2004 Dodge 1Ton with a Cummings Turbo Diesel with a torque converter. I really love my Dodge as she pulls my 81' Formula 25' SC with out any strain. I did the opposite of what most guys did. I bought my boat first and my truck next. I knew if I bought the truck first my wife would never approve of me getting the boat. I told her unless she wanted to look out our covered carport for the next couple or three years and see the stern of the boat as her view on the world she better let me get a truck (not in those exact words though!!) On the open road on a long trip I have gotten as much as 22 miles per gal. Pulling the boat is runs about 15 or so. My next purchase is to install a backup camera to keep an eye on the trailer ;D

My 1995 GMC Suburan 2500 Built 454 w/ Whipple Supercharger (505HP, 751TQ)
-Truck had zero problems towing my 26PC stock and was amazing after I redid the whole truck and engine work.

Still have the Burb however bought a new 2010 GMC Sierra Denali (403HP, 417TQ) which shows technology has come a long way the truck is a great all around package, one guy on a GMC forum said the Sierra Denali is like the worlds strongest man of the pickup world in a suit.

IDCE, Can you please share with me the info on the trailer you use as I have the same boat. Manufacture, etc. I see you went with the triple axle setup, looks real nice in Alum'. Any cost number would be great also.

Thanks,

TLR
