'96 Suburban K1500 w/ 350 Vortec. Tows like the boat isn't even back there ;)

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

Still shopping for a trailer for my current boat (see thread on Allison Trailers) but this truck has plenty of towing miles under its serpantine belt. 2002 Dodge 2500 cummins H.O, 6spd, 4wd. Have boosted it a little with a 4 inch exhaust, free flow air filter/box, and aftermarket computer controller. This thing screams and gets 20mpg to boot. Gotta love a Diesel!!

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

So whats the holdup on the trailer? Who's chip/programer are you using in the Dodge?

Re: What type truck is everyone useing to pull there boats with ?

Van Aakan Chip, I actually need to send it back.I got it from a friend who had it in a non H.O cummins and V.A. said that I can get more out of my engine if they download a H.O. specific program. I just don't want to live without that extra boost for the couple of weeks to ship it out and get it back.

As far as the trailer goes, I have talked to the owner of Allison trailers several times and on some things he sounds great, stands by his product , has built several trailers for 330ss's before, uses his product for long distance tows, etc. then on other things he makes me question his judgment, semi tried to talk me out of a electric over hydraulic brake set up. I have talked to several people who tow heavy like this and they all love the electric over hydraulic and wouldn't go back. He doesn't seem to think it makes that much difference. It seems to me that it would offer allot more control over the trailer and the ability to use a weight distributing hitch with sway control. Again, more control. And then he told me he only uses bias ply tires on his trailers, He said he tried radials and had allot of problems with them and did not get good warr. coverage for them. That makes no sense to me. I see no way that bias ply tires are better than radials in a properly set up trailer.

Then I have been looking for input from anyone else who has bought one of his trailers and no one I have asked has had any. Between here and Speedwake.com no one has answered my questions about him. Although one person linked an old thread about some warr. issues one very disgruntled customer had with the guy. But it seemed to me from reading the thread that Allison was trying to make good but the guy may have been trying him on Internet court so to speak. And the thread died out before there was any end to the tale.

I like this guy because he is the only one I have found so far that has built a trailer for my specific boat, but am still trying to find out as much as I can before I lay out that kind of cash. Especially because I don't need it, just want it. boat is on a lift slip now, and will probably stay there. Just want to be able to pull it a few times a year for cleaning and waxing, store it during the winter closer to home and maybe take it on vacation once a year.

2004 GMC HD2500 Sierra, 2wd, Loaded Loaded Loaded. Except of course 4wd. I have the optional heavier springs to make this tow at max capacity. I ordered this thing new. Got it in March with 9 miles on it and I only have 13k miles on it now.

'05 F350 SRW 4x4 Lariat PSD. I love it! In '05, Ford put all the Superdutys on the F 550 frame, and I can sure feel the difference between it and my '02.
