2008 Ram 2500 6.7L 4x4

Just bought a new tri-axle trailer, going to sell my old tri-axle come spring

Trailering

Hi Alldodge. What kind of trailer are you wanting to sell. I'm looking to replace my shore lander roller trailer for a bunk trailer for my 1996 280ss. My trailer can carry the weight of the boat but is about a foot too short to fit the boat correctly.

It's a loadrite tri-axle which was slide adjustable, was a bit to long for my 27PC, think it's around 32 to 34 feet long. Will get some pics to look at, but the center bunks is a 4x6 which are angle cut to fit the hull. The two outside bunks are 4x4 and I changed out the slide adjusters with with 1 inch bolts that can be adjusted to almost any angle and are solid, the previous would move just using the trailer. Has 3-6K axles with 16 inch 8 lug rims and electric brakes on all axles.

Can get more pics later if interested, these are just ones which I used during another discussion on another forum

Wow! That's a lot of trailer, I think it would be overkill for my 280. I have 16" 6 lug wheels on a tandem axle. I think the axles are 5500#. It carries the boat well I just don't like the rollers or that the last roller is about 6" away from the transom and I have the bow stop adjusted as far forward as it can go. Your trailer sounds great but it would be too much trailer for the boat.

Do you think I'm overthinking the trailer size issue? I know over kill is better but isn't that way overkill? I'm not worried about pulling it, I use a dodge 3500 diesel dually, just don't want to pull extra poundage if I don't need to. Is this the trailer you use with your 27pc? How much does it weigh? And where are you located?

This is the original trailer I used until now to haul my 27PC (28 ft 2 in long). I made it fully adjustable and should have just stuck with it, didn't really need another trailer but after dumping over 40K in the boat, I decided to get a custom fit trailer. The capacity tag on the trailer reads 12K pounds. My new trailer (if I remember correctly) is 10 inch shorter then the old one. Don't know how much it weights by it self.

My thought is the original trailer was a maximum load capacity 12K trailer. The 27PC being such a heavy boat they went from 15 inch tires (listed on the plate) to 16 inch tires and it has 3-6K axles. Don't see any way the trailer weights 6K, my guess is 4K tops.

So I live in far south central KY, close to TN

So it's not that much over kill for me. The 16" 8 lug wheels had me thinking it was a much higher capacity trailer. Loadmaster trailers has a tandem set up for the 280 and that's what I was basing my thinking on. I've only had the boat for a year and don't have a lot of experience with the larger boat trailers. We also have a 1989 Ski Nautique and that is towing a cooler on wheels behind my truck!

I'm in western NC so it wouldn't be a cross country journey for a trailer. What are you asking for it and could you post some more pics?

My new trailer is a loadmaster (drove to OH couple months ago), and I could have gone with a tandem (10K), I went with the tri (12K) again because the increase of capacity and better weight distribution. Haven't fully decided but figuring $3500

AllDodge, a agree with you and I did the same thing as you, when I was buying mine I wanted to go larger then the suggested trailer size not to put too much strain on the trailer, plus having tri-axle I believe is safer than the tandem, and it’s nice not to worry if you over the weight rating limit or not

Alldodge, been out for a few days with work. I did some trailer value research and a 2004 Triaxle load rite comes in at 2950.00 to 3300.00. What year model is your trailer and are you a little flexible on price?

Did you add the electric brakes and keep the surge brake actuator on the tongue? I did that with my shore lander. I blocked off the brake line and it acts like a shock absorber on the tongue. I would like to try and get together on a price and see about getting your trailer.

Welded the surge actuator slide mechanism solid so it doesn't move. Change two axle surge brake to three axle electric brake. Don't remember what year it is but without looking let say it's a 1994 as for the year of the boat, might be newer but doesn't matter to me.

Not in a hurry to sell, wife says I can always use it to make some money pulling others out, being fully adjustable on the outsides

I'm using a 2016 GMC Yukon with Max Tow (8500#)and Automatic Air Leveling to pull our '79 255 Liberator. Trailer is a twin axle aluminum All American out of Pompano Beach with torsion axles, 4 wheel disc brakes and rated for 10,500#. I have the tongue weight dialed in at between 500~600# and it tracks perfectly.

Fully loaded with fuel and gear we are towing about 7250#

I had previously used a 2005 Escalade ESV with the LQ-9 6.0 and 3.73 gearing and 4 speed automatic. Surprisingly, the 5.3 LS Direct Injection, 6 speed automatic and 3:42 gearing in the new Yukon does a better job of moving this Old Formula around.
