Lunch @ Formula

I spoke with Scott and, again, he is very appreciative of our gesture.

He is going to get back with a count of laid off folks, as well as clarity on the ones still working.

Of course, as this thread has grown, as well as the interest in participating, the scope of what is possible is changing, too.

Can we set up some kind of a "Pledge Poll" where we can indicate an amount we are willing to pledge so that we can bring together the realities of the need as well as the resources available?

As for the pledge poll, let me be the first to chime in. I'll match anyone up to 200.00 for starters.

Moderators,

Is there a way to display a running total, perhaps similar to the "Countdown to Spring" ticker on the home page? Regardless, I think we need to move relatively quickly to get the necessary funds in place.

Thanks for the initial commitment!

Mechanically, what I am asking is there a way to put a tool on the Forum to permit folks to check a "pledge level" ($25, $50, $75, $100), as well as an "Other Amount" spot so that people can make some pledge amount.

Castines -- can this be done?

hello everyone,

Haven't had a chance to check in for a while, but glad I'm caught this string today. Great ideas all the way around. I think a lunch then ham certificates with the left over $$ would be great. I'll be standing by to see who to send the funds too. Count me in for $100

OK, WE HAVE THE OK FROM FORMULA TO GO AHEAD AND DO THIS. THE COUNT IS 250 LAID OFF WORKERS.
TONYA HAS HELPED WITH PRICING OF HAMS. THEIR LOCAL MARKET HAS AN EASTER SPECIAL GOING ON AT 1.50 A POUND FOR SEMI BONELESS HAMS RUNNING AROUND 10# EACH, WHICH WOULD BE 15.00 PER HAM. THEY NEED A TWO WEEK NOTICE, THOUGH.
WHAT I AM GOING TO SUGGEST IS THAT WE SEND THE MONEY IN, ANY MONETARY AMOUNT, AND DECIDE IF WE HAVE TIME FOR EASTER HAMS, OR DONATE THE MONEY TO BE SPLIT UP BETWEEN THE UNEMPLOYED, OR THE NEEDIEST FAMILIES.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? POST YOUR COMMENTS, AND WE CAN DECIDE.

HEY GUYS, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
SPOKE TO LOCAL COMMUNITY MARKET IN DECATUR. MANAGER JOHN CONRAD SAID WE COULD DO A FOOD COUPON, WHICH COULD BE GIVEN TO EACH LAID OFF WORKER, IN ANY AMOUNT WE CHOOSE. HE WOULD ASLO DISCOUNT THE COUPONS DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH MONEY WE RAISE.
I AM SUGGESTING WE GO THIS ROUTE, DUE TO THE TIME RESTRAINTS FOR EASTER. WE COULD TAKE ALL DONATION TOTALS, DIVIDE BY 250, AND SPLIT THE MONEY UP BETWEEN THE UNEMPLOYED.
POST YOUR THOUGHTS, GARY

I have validated this, as well. So, for Easter hams, we are talking 250 employees @ $30/ea for a total of $7500. The pizza lunch would be $500 for the working employees.

Some questions are:

Is the gift equitable for employed and laid-off employees?
(I am trying to get a handle on the number of active employees, but if we added them in for the hams, we could be talking $10k - $12k.)

We may need to go with a smaller ham, or something else, in order to be somewhat equitable. Is this agreeable?

Can we get some sense for what we are willing to give as a group? I am happy to collect emails and compile a list to post on this thread, as opposed to multiple postings. I also suspect that over the next week, or so, others will probably join in.

As previously mentioned, a nice letter or card to the Formula people from the Formula Owners Forum would be valuable. Is anyone gifted in this?

seas,
i agree. once we get a plan in action, we can have a nice card made up to let them know we are thinking of them.
i think once the donations are in, we can decide what we want to do, and if it includes the current working employees.

I thought there was a total of about 600 employees prior to the layoffs, is this accurate?

Regarding the costs of the hams, although an excellent idea, it may be cost prohibitive to supply them to everyone. Personally, if funding becomes an issue, I prefer that we give propriety to those out of work first, rather than the ones still working.

If it comes down to gift certificates, we only have to come up with about $2500 if we want to give at least $10 gift certificates to all those currently out of work. I think GSENT is onto something when he suggests we accept all donations, and ultimately divide the collected amount by 250 to determine the yield to each of the furloughees. If we still have enough to include a pizza party.....all the better. Hopefully, we can do both.

To those actively participating in helping this come to fruition, thanks. Is there anything I can do to assist?

Also, to reaffirm, it would be nice to monitor the accumulating donation totals somehow. I think it's a good tool to spur participation.

Moderators.....Is there any type of streaming banner, or the likes, which could be put at the top of this forum's home page, to assure all who visit the forum know of the drive? As it stands now, there are only a few of us who know about it, and we need more participants.

v1,
i was thinking about a mass e mail to all the forum members. as far as showing the amounts donated, i don't know if that is a good or bad idea. some may be mad that they did not donate enough, or hurt by that.
the total donated should be displayed, though. i am not the decision maker here, and am willing as you are to do what ever it takes to make it happen.
hopefully, more will chime in, and voice opinions.

GSENT,

To clarify, what I meant to suggest was that we keep a running TOTAL published, not specific donations..... party by party. Sometimes this method rallys interest in achieving a goal. If the way I previously suggested was confusing, I apologize. I agree, that practice would not be prudent.

Another thought..... How many here simply bypass one section of the forum, and never even open the "General Discussion" section? For example, a SS guy may make a practice of only opening the "Super/Sun Sport Owner's" tab, and browse the threads there. For those who browse like that, they will never even know of this drive without your blanket e-mail, or some other form of notice. Notice of some type would be of great benefit, at least to all the active participants of this forum in each boat type group.

I DON'T SEE A PROBLEM WITH PUBLISHING THE RUNNING TOTALS. ANY IDEAS ARE APPRECIATED. LET US KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.

What if we email directly to GSENT the amount we are willing to pledge, then once a day he can post a total.

We should use a uniform subject line to make it easy, like "Formula Donation - $25"

Then we need to send a check to him before a certain date.

That we we keep the amounts private, yet the total is public and will urge others.

Whatever we collect we collect, then after the date has passed we decide on exactly how to execute the donation.

Maybe a similar tool as others have mentioned can be on the main page like the splash down counter...to spur others on?

If GSENT is in agreement...we should get this rolling.

Just my $.02

JUST TO KEEP EVERYONE IN THE LOOP, I SENT A MASS EMAIL TO ALL 1000+ MEMBERS WITH A LINK TO THE LUNCH AT FORMULA POST. THIS SHOULD INFORM EVERYONE OF WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH.
I APOLOGISE IN ADVANCE FOR ANY UNWANTED EMAILS OR SPAM.

TOOFAST, I AM WILLING TO DO WHAT EVERYONE WANTS. WOULDN'T IT BE BETTER TO GIVE THE TOTAL MONEY I HAVE IN HAND, THOUGH?
I KNOW PLEDGES ARE WHAT THEY ARE, BUT PEOPLE FORGET, NEED REMINDED, ETC. AND MONEY IN HAND WOULD BE THE GUARANTEED AMOUNT.
I CAN POST DAILY, THE AMOUNT RECEIVED, AND KEEP EVERYONE IN THE LOOP.
I AM ALSO SUGGESTING THAT WE CONTACT OUR DEALERS, SERVICE CENTERS, AND ANYONE WHO ADVERTISES ON THIS SITE FOR DONATIONS, ALSO.
WE ALL CAN HELP. THANKS

Yes, money in hand is perfectly accepatable...

I think once we have this nailed...we should post a summary post so everyone does not have to read three pages of posts (like we all like too) :)

At some point we just need to make a decision or the ideas will flow forever...are we ready to accept and finalize our approach?

Hi all, sorry i'm on the road again using a hotel computer....

I like the discounted gift certificates and divide by the amount given by a certain final date for donations.

I will look into getting some type of meter/funds collected dohicky on the site. Although it may just have to be an edited post with total dollar amounts updated as checks come in. Its a bare bones forum site so i dont have very many tools to work with. I will start the topic now. it will be a locked thread and updated by the mods. i dont see any reason to reply to it.

As Gary said, he just sent out over 1000 emails to all members who have ever joined the site. I did this once before and got a few folks that were not happy about getting the email. but the cause justifies the need for the email.

Great Stuff!!!

I SAY WE GO FOR THE GIFT CERTIFICATES AT THE LOCAL MARKET, AND HAVE A PIZZA PARTY FOR THE WORKINGMEN AND WOMEN. WE WILL TAKE THE TOTAL MONIES COLLECTED, TAKE 500.00 OFF THE TOP FOR PIZZA, AND DIVIDE THE REST BY 250.
OUR GOAL WOULD BE TO RECEIVE AT LEAST 3000.00.

So if we do this the "legal way" is to propose a motion and then we second it..

I will second GSENT gift certificates to the local market idea...that way everybody can purchase what they need.

I also assume it is final and decided to send the checks to:

agreed,

$3000 is the goal, not the limit but the goal!

$2500 gets 250 non working a $10 gift certificate. (if we get more than $3K the gift cert goes up)
$500 get the Pizza party.

This way no one is left out.
