Lunch @ Formula

I spoke with Scott Porter about this and he is very appreciative. It is not often that a customer base comes together to encourage the employees in these times.

He said the whole thing would come to about $500. He would like to schedule it for sometime in April since some folks are out on furlough over the next few weeks to coincide with Spring Breaks.

So, to proceed, we need to generate the interest among us to fund a $500 lunch. If we get enough interest, I would like to figure out a way to individually call the restaurant and give a CC# for whatever amount we choose to give. Or, I am sure Formula would do this for us.

Other ideas??

I am in...maybe we could use those web sites I've seen for charitable donations somehow. That chart the progress, etc.

I will stay tuned for details!

I'll participate as well.

I do think we need to come up with a seamless way to cover the expense though. I don't know that the management of the local Pizza Hut is going to be that interested in getting dozens of calls over a period of days to process numerous payments from out of state participants, but I may be mistaken.

Since we have a little time, I, or someone else if deemed more appropriate, (perhaps one of the moderators here) could volunteer to receive checks towards this goal, and make one call to the restaurant, and put it on a charge card. Unless I am naive, I think anyone interested in contributing to a gesture of this nature could be trusted to mail a check to the one collector, and on the other end.....trust the designated collector to send payment. We are one big family aren't we?

Anyhow, I'm open to alternate suggestions, but it needs to be as simple as possible.

Also, I still am of the belief that it may be worthwhile to call the Pizza Hut in question ahead of time to see what they will do for us on a volume basis, and for this worthwhile cause. Perhaps we could get a bit of a break.

Lastly, how about a BIG card to be delivered along with the Pizzas, with the participant's names, their boat type, and well wishes from each of us. This would personalize it a little more, and encouragement is a good thing at this juncture.

I AM IN ALSO.
I AM ALSO WILLING TO ACCEPT THE DONATIONS, AND ORDER THE FOOD.
I SUGGEST THAT THIS BE THE FORMULABOATSFORUM LUNCH ON US.
IF WE NEED 500.00, LETS GET SOME IDEAS AS TO THE AMOUNT EVERYONE WOULD LIKE TO DONATE.
ALSO, IF YOU THINK ITS WISE, I WOULD POST THE AMOUNTS DONATED ON THE FORUM, IF APPROVED.
ANY DEALERS OR SPONSERS WOULD BE WELCOME TO DONATE, ALSO.
LET ME KNOW.

I would donate also since the Formula Rep I dealt with was the ONLY person that would hear my issue and take care of said issue. Hopefully we can get enough of us so it won't hurt so bad.

"....like a snowball rolling down the side of a snow covered hill, it's growing......like the fish that the man says broke his reel, it's growing..." (sung to the tune of the Temptations!)

I'm IN! I think we need to select either Seas or Gary point person as this will get pretty big real soon. OK, its not the Army but we need a volunteer and as said let's try and keep it as simple as possible. Do I dare say send pics of your boat!

Hi all, i'm in also. I like Gary's idea.

Since GSENT/Gary has volunteered to be the point person hes it! Thanks Gary ;D

I suggest we divide the $500 lunch by the amount of persons on this thread that are willing to donate to the lunch. Of course that deadline will be some time in April, maybe the 2nd week??

So if we get 20 members/vendor to pony up, that would be $25 each. and if we get 30.....

As we get closer to the to be determined lunch date Gary will post his mailing address and we can all send him a check for the to be determined amount.

Seas and PTG, Hat's off to ya, great idea to support the family that supports us!

Please don't take this the wrong way.

Are hearts are in the right place however what are we doing here?

250 people are out of work, what are we planing to help them?

I understand your thoughts. I guess you just have to look at it as a sign of appreciation for what the folks at Formula do for us.

ANYONE WISHING TO DONATE TO THE CAUSE CAN SEND A CHECK TO ME AT:
GARY STALEY
2676 INGOMAR ST.
PITTSBURGH, PA. 15216
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

Summerwind beat me to it. Although what we are about to do is noble, I also was thinking the stronger need is with those who now are joining the ranks of the unemployed.

Perhaps there is something we can do for them as well. Let's say 50 folks join in on this venture. Instead of dividing 500 by the amount of participants, perhaps we could set a little higher goal. Then there would be room to buy some gift certificates to a food chain, and let Thunderbird distribute them in our name, and with our thanks.

Let's do the math. If 50 folks give 50 dollars, and the Pizza bill is 500, that leaves 2K which could be distributed in some form to a couple hundred folks. Not much, but a 10 dollar gift card to a restaurant may be very well received by a struggling young family. Those who could give more could certainly do so, making the distribution more relevant. Any here who could purchase a brand new vessel worth 400K+ could probably find it within their heart and means to help at a little deeper level. That would be my plan.

Any takers?

Seas,

Is is possible to find out if the factory could have a lunch for everyone including the recently laid off folks. At least this way we could be buying lunch for those who are working today and those waiting for the economy to get back up to speed to go back to work. I figure $500 would by at the least 50 pies, thats 400 slices. 100 pies 800 slices....

Like V1 says, we could get more food ;D or even gift cards, but if we decide this route, then i think we need a body on the ground in Decatur? maybe someone from the factory if they are willing.

Another idea is to work with the factory to send out an Easter Ham/gift certificate for each family. Easter is April 12th this year.

Remember, we cant save the country, but we can help out a few that work hard and have pride in building a product made in the USA that keeps us all smiling from ear to ear.

So rather than hope some of the dealerships find this thread, suppose WE contact them. Then ask if they would contact their Formula boat owners and have them email whomever called the dealership so we do some outreach and further extend our base. For instance, I will call Hampton Marine and ask them to have their owners email me; Gary could call Ivancic; somebody is out near Phoenix I believe, etc. Let's do some networking of our own and see if someone knows somebody up the food chain at a Shop Rite/Stop & Shop/Giant to see what can be done about food gift certificates. I don't remember a big supermarket in Decatur but there must be something there. As more guys respond we will start to get an idea of what a flat contribution level will get them(not us), rather than dividing people into $500.00. I think Easter hams would be meaningful.

Well said PT G, and good ideas all. Castines, I like the Easter Ham idea too. That's an EZ way to make sure all, including those laid off, are included. Anybody else with ideas during this brainstorming phase?

Anyhow, within the next couple days, a clear plan will emerge. It's already evident that GSENT is going to be the money guy...thanks Gary.

Regardless of how it plays out, participants in this drive will be rewarded with the fact that they facilitated a good thing in behalf of those who work(ed) hard to produce and support the products we so enjoy. It will be a pleasure to watch this come to fruition. It would also be nice if someone got some pictures to share here.

I think this is a great idea. We have had nothing but good service and support from Formula and I think this is a great way to show our appreciation to them. Another option would be to make a donation to a local food bank if there is one in their area as they would probably be helping a lot of those workers families who were laid off.

MANY GREAT IDEAS FLOATING AROUND.
EASTER HAMS (GOOD QUALITY BONELESS) WOULD BE AROUND 30.00 EACH, AT A LOCAL DECATUR BUTCHER SHOP, WITH HIM GIVING US A DISCOUNT. HE SUGGESTED IF WE WOULD DECIDE ON HAMS, THAT WE DO IT WITH GIFT CERTIFICATES, SINCE HE CAN KEEP THEM REFRIGERATED, AND EVERYONE COULD PICK THEM UP AT HIS STORE.
WE COULD ALSO GO WITH A CHEAPER BONE-IN HAM, FOR AROUND 20.00 EACH.
TONYA HAMILTON WILL GET BACK TO ME WITH THE OK, AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES LAID OFF.
I DO NOT KNOW IF WE COULD PULL THIS OFF WITH EASTER LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AWAY. MAYBE COLLECT DONATIONS, AND HAVE THE FORMULA FACTORY EITHER HAVE A DRAWING, OR DECIDE WHICH EMPLOYEES ARE THE NEEDIEST.
WE ARE ALL PART OF THE FORMULA FAMILY, AND HELPING ANY WAY POSSIBLE, WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY THEM.

Absolutely -- I can find out, and will.
And, I like the idea of supporting those laid off, as well.

While our gesture will not sustain any of them in economic terms, knowing that their customer base is as dedictaed to them as they have been to us will be quite an encouragement. Hopefully, it will help them gain a sense of peace.

I'll get beck soon.
