Distance

Just wondering....I usually tow 8000 lbs about 10 miles each way. This past season I was towing about 45 miles each way. Due to the price of gas , it was considerably cheaper to tow part way to my destination than to run the boat all the way. I've also towed to FL from Jersey and I occasionally do and 800 mile round trip to New Hampshire.

How far and how much do you normally tow?
Here is my typical vacation weather at a rest stop on the the way to NH in '04. About 20 miles before I broke a trailer spring ::)

I'm not sure the exact weight of my rig loaded, but I would guess full of fuel, fishing gear, etc, all on the trailer, I'm somewhere around 6,000-7,000 # with the trailer.

If heading offshore, I tow ~15-20 miles each way, if fishing the bay, I tow ~5 miles each way.

I'm 60 miles round trip anywhere I go.
I went to LOTO 1 time.
Was told it would be 4 hour drive.....5 hours later I was still on the road.
Won't be doing that one again.

Opie ,
I'd just be glad to get it back in the water ANYWHERE considering how long you were out of commission ::)

Central Florida is surrounded by lakes. The East Coast Intracoastal Waterway is about 60 miles and the Guf of Mexico is a little further west. We have one lake that's a 15 minute tow, another 30 minutes out, and a large chain of lakes in Orlando that's about 15-20 miles away. One lake will lead you to a canal that heads all the way down south to Lake Okeechobee. Someday I'd like to make that run.

First experience with ownership was towing from TX to central NC. Then it got easier... Now to get to water, I go about 20 miles each way.

I've since changed out inner/outer bearings & race on all 4 wheels & got new bearing buddies. (Learned lots there...)

Depending on ramp/river 20-40 miles each way. But it's worth it to keep the boat indoors at the house!!!!!

I'm guessing around 8000 pounds. I pulled it with an F150 just to the nearest boat launch when I got it. Then I bought a F250 PSD, and the farthest I towed it was from my old house in Clearwater, to here in Deland. I also pulled it up to the Jacksonville Firefighter's Poker Run this spring. The new F350 PSD is a whole new ballgame. I can't belive how much better it pulls than the 250.

If you're talking about the 302 , it's gotta be more than 8000. My 272 is 5788 dry +130 gallons of gas 1000 lbs +1000 lb aluminum trailer. And I know for sure I have at least another 212 lbs of junk on it ::)

I tow anywhere from 12 to 20 miles one way, a 272 with tandam axle trailer, tow to LOTO avery year, 5 hr drive time. I drive truck in the off season and 5 hrs is a little hop. I use my F350 power stroke and run 70 to 75 mose all the way. This a light load as when we play with the old tractors I pull a 35' flat bed with 3 old tractor that weight about 5200 apeace that makes total gross about 20000 lb. I can run 70 with it no problem. Yes it pulles down on big hills but so does my 525 hp semi loaded. Handles the boat well, pulled it home from Fla and I converted a Chev. owner on the way back.

I pull 8900 with fuel and trailor. the dayum trailor weighs 2800  Ido it with a 04 f150 crew cab 34miles one way. no problems ;D

I was being conservative. If I had to bet, I'd say closer to 10k than 8k. I know that if I try to jack it up with a bottle jack, it will punch the bottle jack through the asphalt.

Yeah , I'd bet OVER 9000.

Well let's see. I bought mine in NC and brought it home to MN. Then I trailered it 25 miles one way to the ramp for a summer. After brought it 30 hours (1700 miles) down to my new home in Cape Coral, FL. So my boat has seen most of the east coast. To bad it was all on the trailer........

Unless I travel to Vt. or maine my distance is only 10 miles it is usually here the rest of the time ;D I know it gets dirty sitting in the water, but it is nice in the middle of the week with a couple of cold ones doing a little cleaning ;D

Mark,
Never been on the Fun Run or Customer appreciation day out of Lakeport Landing. Just read about it in the new letter. Do hope to make it up there in '06 barring any further probs. Of course I've replaced just about everthing possible now ::).
Much damage to your Chris? I've been going there since 1953 so I know the areas to avoid. I know them here to but that doesn't always mean anything.

Ouch, I usually stay between Alton Bay , Wolfeboro , Weirs , Meredith and Center Harbor and give the witches a wide berth.
