Which Zincs?

Please remember to use Zinc in salt water, Aluminum in brackish, and Magnesium in fresh water.

ALLDODGE,
I disagree with the greatest respect. There is so much conflicting info out there that no one can rely on getting the best info. Boat Zincs.com has a similar chart that conflicts. West Marine has a chart that states what I have stated.
I have taken a corrosion control class and still have my workbook which also states the same. Volvo Penta and Mercruiser both install aluminum because they do not know where the outdrive will end up. They reimburse the dealer and have an exchange program so the correct anodes are installed before the customer receives his new boat. Here are the links.

Agree there is conflicting info. They say the same thing except in salt. One leans zinc and other leans Aluminum, and West just list only one which is the one boat zinc is leaning.

That said, the real way to know your protected is by measuring the Mercathode output with correct probe
There is also the important issue of the size of the anodes as Flacht6 wants to know. To large can be worst then ones that are to small because this changes the protection voltage output

Just order (2) new magnesium anodes for my 2004 47' Yacht, anyone know if there are more anodes I am not seeing?

There should be two oval’ish anodes on the transom, 2 rudder anodes on the swim platform arms, 1 big Volvo anode in the middle of the transom, one anode in each of the IPS units (if you have IPS) and then there are engine anodes too. My D6’s have one each and my generator has one too.
