Where have you been

I would like to tell you what a great trip we had to the Chesapeake bay. The week before labor day we planned a trip to Martha's Vineyard. Yea that chancy time of year, for whatever reason the waves came from the North east that week, so south we went. First two days we stayed inside Barnegat Bay with a night in Beach Haven then onto Atlantic City. Out into the Atlantic with 3 to 4 foot following seas and a most pleasant day. Next stop Cape May where the sea food feast started. Although I did the Delaware river from Trenton to Chadwick Beach N.J. for the maiden voyage, this was our first pleasure trip on the Delaware. Exploring our way we traversed the D&C canal on a Tuesday with virtually no traffic. The upper Chesapeake was an exciting new adventure with shore scenery that is totally different than our home waters. After a 5 1/2 hour boat trip we ended up in Saint Michaels for two nights. I really enjoy the conversation on the fuel dock when they ask where we came from and I get to tell them where my last fuel stop was. While the weather was great the entire trip we did need to have some rough water in the upper bay going to Annapolis. More fantastic sea food and a great port to visit. Back tracking to home, the Atlantic was still running from the North east and I was thrilled to have our Formula 40PC with IPS 500's to keep use on a steady course. Hope to hear from other owners and the enjoyment they get from cruising.

X2 what Castines said. Love, love, love the Annapolis area for boating. Did you spend any time on the Wye River while in the vicinity of St. Michaels? Lots of nice anchorages there.

Winter soon coming to Michigan and the boats will be coming out of the water the next few months. We have unbelievable fresh water boating here. Grand Traverse Bay is amazing on Lake Michigan. And Huron has the North Channel. The last couple of days I was thinking about hauling my boat to somewhere on the Chesapeake and exploring it and work my way down to Lauderdale, seeing the Carolina's as well. It would be a much less tedious trip than going thru the NY canals and you would be having fun immediately. What I love about boating is exploring a new port and town. Jumping on a bike with my wife and exploring. Below is a photo of my wife and I at Grand Traverse light on our bikes after we navigated our boat 40 miles to the small town of Northport, MI.

Yeah, what Machinepirate said!

We boat the northern Lake Michigan area, too, and have done the cycle trip to the lighthouse from Northport.

This year we left Elk Rapids, headed into Lake Huron and stayed overnights at St Ignace, Sault Ste Marie, Cheboygan and Mackinaw City. We ended up back in Lake Michigan where we stopped for two nights at Petoskey before heading home to Elk Rapids.

The northern Great Lakes are boaters heaven and we feel blessed to have the chance to explore them.

Next year maybe the North Channel or Door County, Wisconsin.
