Water pump not working

For some reason my water pump has stopped working. Tank is full, switch is one, galley switch is set to water tank, and lights up.

Before I go testing and pulling things off, any thoughts? Suggestions?

Check for power at the pump pressure switch. Make sure power is coming out of the switch to the motor.
This will eliminate the pressure switch.
If power is there, check all connections for a bad ground. If all tests ok, motor must be bad.

FYI if the switch is bad you should be able to buy just the switch. I don't mean to insult your intelligence by saying that but many stores will tell you its not available. If that is the case do your searching online. It should be an easy fix for you.

We use various brands of theses style water pumps at work and it doesn't matter which brand all the switches are a pain. We find the pumps last for many years and pump more gallons than you will ever pump through on a boat but the switches only make a year or so for us. We tend to re plumb an aftermarket pressure switch that will last for years but i don't know that it would be acceptable for marine.

Thanks for the replies!

If the pump is running but not pumping, check the filter.
My pump would run but would not create any water pressure. Turned out the diaphram was bad, got one on eBay for around 15 bucks, been fine ever since.

I think it's my switch. Does anybody know the part number to the pump that formula was using around 2003 on the 40pc? The one I have has the first batch of numbers cut off.

Most of the demand pump brands only use one switch for a variety of their pumps. So if its a Shurflo you really only need to worry about getting a Shurflo switch. I suggest double checking it looks the same so it will fit but it has been my experience that about as complicated as it gets for switch replacement. I am sorry i can't help with what brand pump they were or are using.

I was just looking at a marine website and the Jabsco pump sure looked like a Flojet switch to me and then i noticed in the pic the pump had Flojet printed on it. Might be a website error or maybe Jabsco and Flojet are now one.

When you find a switch I am pretty confident if it looks the the proper switch it probably is.

Well, I installed a new pump. Man that is a horrible location. There is no sound deadening what so ever. Has anyone changed the fresh water pump location? I am going to. I hate the noise level.

Not sure anyone has that I know of....but I agree it is loud.

Over the winter I plan on trying to build a HUSH BOX around it, not sure if or how I can, but on my list.

Any ideas are welcome of course to quiet this down...

Where was the pump located? Behind the Galley Fridge? How much of a pain is it to remove the fridge and get to it? Where did you wind up getting the pump from and which model did you replace it with? I have an 04' 40PC with what sounds to be the same issue.

The pump is behind the fridge. 4 screws holding it in. It's a little tough getting it in and out. I bought a Shurflo
4138-111-E65 Pump. It's a little bigger and slightly quieter. I did order a quiet kit that Shurflo makes which is basically 2 soft hoses that will connect to the hard hoses which should quiet the vibrating hard pipes. I havn't installed it yet but if it works it will be the best $30 I have spent. Pumps available at your local marine store.

I did the quiet kit this year and it did reduce the rumble about in half.
