water pump leak

Engine is 2002 Merc 8.1 with raw water cooling. Noticed the raw water pump has a leak where the pulley shaft goes in the front of the pump housing. Is it possible to replace the seals and bearings and not the entire housing?

If you have access to a press or a really big vise I don't see why not. It looks like the shaft will have to be pressed from the back to the front, with the seal coming out in the same direction.

I've never done this, but if they sell parts it must be serviceable. I would take a look at the back plate for scoring while you have it out. If there is significant scoring on the brass backing plate it may be a better cost/benefit to just pony up for a new or rebuilt pump.

Below is an example. Make sure to search based on your engine S/N as they made a few different pump styles:

Yes agree, easy enough to do.
Have not done on of this model but have done several of the previous model. If you take it apart first you can see the bearing numbers and get them from a regular supply house
