Trim Position and Trim Limit puck adjustments

Both of my Bravo IIIs seem to tilt at different speeds based on the gauges and didn't stop at the max safe trim position. I figured the trim position and trim limit switches needed attention. The mechanic at my yard seemed unable to do them, which seemed weird, since I figured it was a basic Mercruiser repair/adjustment. He started to try, but then stopped. He told me they were all bad and needed to be all changed.

I ended up doing them myself. I didn't change them. I adjusted them and they seem to work well now.

Some of the screws were extremely tight. So tight that I broke a screw while unscrewing it. I've broken screws before while tightening, but never while loosening.

How tight are they usually?

those things can be pretty darn tight, i've used a hand impact on them before to get them loose. not uncommon that the stainless screws break either.

Thanks. My friend asked if they were stainless and I didn't know. The second screw is holding well, so I might wait until the end of summer and get the screws replaced during winterization.

Should any type of anti-seize be used on the threads of the new screws?

Thanks again!

that would probably be a good idea IMO but others may disagree. the stainless screw going into the aluminum housing is where the problem lies, this is a recipe for stuff to get stuck so i think anti-seize might help. remember, the housing is aluminum so you need to be careful when getting the broken screw out.

Thanks Formula Tenn. I might even chicken out and have the Formula dealer in Charlevoix, MI do the work. I never underestimate my ability to screw things up worse!
