Tilt Guages Not Working

Most likely the senders are rotted out. The analog gauges barley stay working with brand new senders and just setup. Changing the senders needs at minimum the drives being pulled. When was the last time the bellows were done?

If the senders are fairly new, you could loosen them on the drive and move them to see if the gauges respond. Does the trim limit switch work? With the drives all the way down, you should be able to use the trim and the drives will stop themselves about 1/4 way up. Then you should have to use trailer to get the rest of the way.

I would only worry about trying to fix if the bellows need changing also, otherwise its a lot of work for gauges that are not very useful when they do work. Learn your boat, learn what to much trim feels like, and watch the drives when someone is running them up to make sure they both go the same speed. Make sure trim limit switch works. Then you won't even need the gauges to drive the boat.

My port side trim gauge just started acting goofy on my '07 280ss. It won't go all the way down, then bounces around a lot while trimming. My only concern is if both drives are moving the same, and if they are I can just go by my starboard drive gauge. I'll have to check it on the trailer.

You will know right away if both drives are not moving the same. Lost the trim solenoid on the port side of my 330 a few years ago, When I trimmed the boat it immediately listed to a side. At first it took me a bit to figure out what was happening, but for sure I knew something wasn't right.

I started with brand new analog senders when I rebuilt the transom assemblies on the 330, and set the gauges exact. That lasted for all of 3 weeks. They suck. Ignore em, and like I mentioned above you don't need them to drive the boat anyway.

However, the new digital senders on the smartcraft transom assemblies do actually work. Once you figure out the system and calibrations, they work great.

Funny thing, mine did the same, and the port gauge finally died. Both drives seem are working sync. I have new senders on both drives, my assumption is that its a gauge failing....
