Tighten those screws guys.....and gals.

Well, I learned a valuable lesson yesterday. I went to fill up with fuel, and one of the gas caps broke loose, and went in the water.

If you have never taken the time to look closely, the cap (two pieces...an inner and outer) is held onto the cable-spring retainer with a single screw. It does not readily appear loose as it backs it's way out of the cap due to the way it is assembled.

Sooooo, in the water it went, and the water is 12 feet deep at the fuel dock. I call a couple divers, to no avail. I then call Formula, and was informed that one cannot just buy a fuel cap, as it only is available as part of the complete filler hardware and hose assembly. Translation.....pretty pricey to merely get a cap.

TAG was very helpful, but in the end, the dock attendant and myself were quite fortunate in successfully retrieving the cap with a minnow net taped to a long pole. Considering the current and vessel traffic, what were the odds? To say the least, I was VERY happy with the ending. ;D

Now ask me if I'm going to tighten those cap screws VERY often from now on, and I suggest that you do the same!

Perhaps a good dose of loctite as well....

Glad you found it though...and thanks for sharing.
