Swim Platform Extension Install 280SS questions

For those have installed a swim platform extension that goes over the existing platform, what did you do about the existing ladder hatch, did you remove it, leave it in place and silicone shut? Looking at mine it appears that it sits just slightly above the existing platform so I'm leaning towards removing it completely.

I have a factory one on a 280ss and it looks like it's still intact. I cant access it at all and the ext. SP just lays over it. The door is clearly on and not sealed closed.
