Supporting the Hatch to remove the Opening Ram

We are about ready to change the exhaust manifolds on my 350 CBR with twin 8.2l engines. Getting to the outsides of each engine looks to be relatively easy to change out the manifolds (8 bolts, decent access, just heavy parts). But the challenge may be getting to the space between the engines due to the opening ram's position interfering with the access to lie down there and get the bolts underneath. So we are thinking about opening the hatch, placing some 2x4 support structure in the engine bay to support the open hatch, and then to pull the pin at the top of the ram to the hatch, and remove the ram. Once done, we can reassemble the ram and then remove the support structure.
Does anyone have photos of what they built and/or where you placed the supports? I know just how heavy the hatch is. When the boat was brand new, we had to pull the pin from the emergency cover to open the hatch because the reed switch on the door was misaligned from a loose bolt at the reed switch from initial build assembly quality. It took 3 of us to lift it up (since the hatch was closed) to get down into the engine bay to realign the reed switch. We don't have access to a crane or sling to hold the hatch open since we're in the water in a slip. Any advice or photos are appreciated.
