Structure under batteries

Boat is a 1988 242 LS. Can someone tell me that back where the battery mounts on the L side where it sits should it be wood with fiberglass over it or foam. . I had to remove the battery and tray and one screw was solid and the other went into a hollow space. I picked around in the space and it appeared to be foam? Any thoughts on a repair?? Thanks

^^^agree pics please
Most are fiberglass over wood. Could be there is a small area where there is no wood and just happened to use it

Don't think there is a post count requirement, but maybe
Your selecting "attach files" bottom left corner?

Another place requires 10 but maybe @genset will know

That should be all wood under there, guess it just happened to find a spot that was a void. Could take a 1/8 or smaller drill bit and make a couple test holes

I believe the cavity below the wood is foam filled. Not sure why your screw is not holding but the wood may be rotted.

Thanks for the info.. I will drill a couple test holes.. I just got the boat a couple of months ago, and the survey showed no areas of concern..

When you drill your holes, drill them slowly, looking at the shavings to see if they are wet. This is a good indication that the wood has water intrusion.

Thanks, will do.. Fingers Crossed for dry holes.. When I removed the battery tray, one screw was tight and dry. The other one spun not biting into anything but had what appeared to be foam on it, but also dry..

BTW I'm going to remove the FORMULA letters on the sides to buff or possibly wet sand the upper hull right below the rub rail. What would be good to reattach the letters with??

I removed the letters on the sides of mine. My FasTech was simply so fast a few of them peeled off ;)
I didn't put any back on cuz... if you know... you know.

If you see a classic looking boat, that could be 20 years old, and the paint looks brand new. That's a Formula.
