speedometer

It is normally on the forward facing edge of the skeg... it's a little hole size of a small nail.

It leads up to a tube to enter through the transom.

At least that's how it used to be in all the Bravo 3s brand brand new might use All Digital speedometer and it might have no need for the system anymore I described.

I know the pitot hole you speak of, but mine doesn't have one. There is a small connector where the lower unit meets the gearcase but it's folded over and zip tied tight. Normally, that connecter is a quick connect where you can disconnect the speedo tube when removing the lower unit from the gear case. But mine has been rendered useless. Guessing my speedo (dial guage) might be part of a GPS system with the Raymarine Axiom or maybe with the Active Trim system.

Yup gotta be....you can remove the gauge if you have a stand alone one and the connections will tell us all.

Spoke with the dealer. Dial speedo is not connected on 240, 270 and 290 bowriders that have the Merc engine with the Raymarine GPS.

On my 330CBR the dial speedos work off of the GPS as well. Must be what they are doing on most/all boats that have GPS.

I'm not sure why anyone would want anything other than a GPS speedo, the mechanical pitot tube ones never worked well when they were new, let along as the tubes all clogged up.

I forgot to post the final answer. The DIAL GUAGE speedo was not hooked up to the GPS as it SHOULD have been. Dealer did a simple hookup and things were fine. But yes, the pitot tube hole always got clogged on my 1998 Alpha 1 outdrive, years ago.
