Rough condition hull

Looking at buying a 2000 271 FASTech. The hull has seen better days... I believe most, if not all, of the damage is from loading/unloading often as the boat didn’t sit in the (fresh) water.

Just looking at these two images, would sanding the hull, painting, then gel coating it be all it takes? There’s a few spots that may need some patching with fiber glass. Correct me if I’m wrong

Thanks in advance.

Sand and Gel or sand and paint, both will make it look good

Gel coat will have a better chance of it looking original, but no issue with paint. Look at all the high dollar offshore boats, most all of them are painted.

Awesome info. Thank you

Safe to assume painting materials will cost less than gel coat?

Maybe, depends on what paint you use. Also Gel can be harder to apply
I painted my PC hull bottom with VC Performance (3 coats). VC is an epoxy and great paint but the down side is it doesn't have any UV protection, so the sun will cause it to yellow. Now if the paint is used below water line like I did then it doesn't yellow.
