Retrofit pop-up cleats on 31PC swim platform.

I have noticed on the new Formulas that they have added an additional pair of pop-up cleats on the starboard and port side of the swim platform. The way my boat is docked with our EZ dock platform these cleats would really be nice because I could crisscross the stern lines without people tripping over them :) Has anyone done this and if so is it a difficult job to do? Is this a do-it-yourself or is it better to pay a professional to do it? Any advice would be appreciated.

TIA

My 2009 31 PC has these and your right, what a great upgrade by Formula. Hopefully someone will chime in and tell you they have done a retrofit, you will love them.

bigguns,
i actually did this for my '04 40pc last fall. i had the same reaction you did when i saw them...i hated having to step over my stern lines when first getting onto the boat, so i considered that a must have. i ordered them through formula and they were about $115 a piece. i had a local shop install them though because i have an aversion to cutting holes in my boat. ;) it was a quick install for them though, and after looking at the install i think i could have done it...i'm just chicken.

it's just two through hull bolts...probably 3-4" long. then there's a drain tube which i had run to where all the others drop into the bilge. i use them almost exclusively now, and it was totally worth it. they look great, and the install looks factory.

good luck!

I ADDED THEM TO MY 05 37PC. THEY STARTED FROM THE FACTORY IN 06. LOVE THE LOOKS AND HOW THEY ARE NEVER IN YOUR WAY. I ADDED A 3/16 STAINLESS BACKING PLATE AS LARGE AS POSSIBLE UNDER IT, TO AVOID ANY CRACKING OR DAMAGE. DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES.

With the pop-up cleat do you actually have to cut out part of the platform so the body of the cleat recesses flush with the swim platform? Or, does it mount on top of the platform with thru-bolts but has a low profile? Sorry for asking so many questions but I have never seen them up close only in pictures.

TIA

you just have to cut the holes for the thru-bolts. the body of the cleat sits on top of the deck...

not exactly proud of this. :) but, they charged me ~270 all in. $196 for install, which should be 2 hours, and $49 travel time...the rest was parts. did i mention that they look good? ;D

good luck getting them done...
