New ladder

The boarding ladders on the late 80s Formulas tend to suck .  Round steps , making them hard on your feet. Round metal is also slippery. Only two steps so on the trailer I had to darn near put my knee against my chin to hit the first step.

Well after 6 years of searching I've found a replacement ladder that will fit between the existing mounts.
Most over the counter ladders are narrower than the Formula ladder and new holes would have to be drilled and old ones filled. This one is close enough all I need is a couple of spacers and two longer stainless bolts and it should boly right up to the existing mount.
It's made by SeaRanger and is available in 3 or 4 step and has flat steps with vinyl stap pads and is all stainless construction.

Just make up a 1/2 inch spacer for each side and it should work like a champ ;)

I'll continue this in 7 or 8 more weeks when the shrinkwrap "tent" comes off and I have better access to the ladder and its workings.
WOW Only 7 or 8 more weeks. This winter is going fast

I bought this same ladder for my 242. The original one was mounted under the platform and had one hoop. Had to get my knees over my head to get onto this one. Must have been a circus boat for a contorsionist previously ;D
I'm glad you posted your picture to give me some more ideas about how I will mount this new ladder. l like the new method of the ladder under a lid recessed in the platform but that leaves me to cutting and glassing to make the hole. That is still a clean look though. Your mount style would be faster and easier for me. Decissions decissions. :)

I was looking fpr a ladder that would fit between the existing mounts on the swim platform without drilling more holes. This is thw widest and full stainless That I've foound. In my case , I just remove mounting tabs from the new ladder and make a 1/2 inch stainless spacer ti fill the vooid between the new ladder and the old mounts. Now I'll have four steps with nice treads on them.
Congrats on becoming a full member , newbie ;D ;D

Sounds like you have a nice and simple bolt on exchange. I might take a hard work route cutting and glassing. Is the platform mostly hollow inside or is it full of foam? Do you know?

Not really sure in that area but I am trying to avoid finding out. Most ladders I've found over the years were way too narrow. This one is real close to the width of the existing  mounts and I think some spacers should work fine. The only other one i found that was close had plastic steps. Not made for my fat azz ;D

Where did you get the ladder MO and how much mine is broke :(

Boat U.S. aka  West Marine $144.00 on sale for $129.00 plus I had 2 $15 certificates. Tried a West Marine in New Castle DE (no sales tax in DE) and they didn't have this on. Went to Cherry Hill NJ and got it. Made By Sea Ranger.

You can drill some holes and make starboard or pvc board steps for the round steps. I redid the one on my fishboat with starboard.

I detest teak! There was a bunch on the F 20, I don't think there's a single piece of it left now. The only teak on the 302, is right at the stern, some kind of anti slip step.

My old FourWinns had a full width teak swim platform that was gorgeous for about two weeks after cleaning , brightening and oiling. What a PIA that was. I finally found stuff called Armada , that was like urethane , but formulated to stick to oily teak wood.
Cleaned and sanded it and applied three coats as directed and it ccame up looking like a diamond. ;) Only drawback was it was slippery as an eels belly :(
