Marine Dash Cam

I have about a dozen of these around the house, and they work great.
So well in fact, when I thought of a boat dash cam, I was thinking maybe just wire this up, and when the batteries are on, the cam records, and off is off.

I could hard mount this, under the glass of the windshield, maybe infront of the compass thing. I've actually been thinking of just removing that. replace it with a white round piece of HDPE, and then I could mount this, to that.

I can set it up on my phone's hot spot, to get it on my account, get all the settings right, then it should work just fine, and I'll check in on it occasionally. and if needed, just pull the card and toss it in a computer.

anyone else run a marine dash cam? I see a lot of idiots out there, and tonight a friend sent me his wife's dash cam of someone reversing into her (low speed, she's fine). and thought.. my boat needs one. (Cuz the cars already have them).
The other driver drove off, so he filed a police report.

I don't think it would, but the compass is pointless for me.
it takes up a lot of dash real-estate for zero value.

I had considered removing it, to mount a new GPS or something similar, but the cost (of a nice GPS) isn't worth it for where/how I boat.

I'll test it out sometime this winter, with a camera I already have, to see how it would look, and what the camera would see.
