Latham Lift

45 Y 2012, swim platform won't go up or down. Fuse is good, and when using remote, there is a clicking sound in engine room, but no beeping or movement.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

First thing I would do is check the fluid in the pump.... I'm not sure where yours is but mine is on the port side aft in the engine compartment.

I have replaced 2 motors on my lift in the last 12 years. If the lift has not been run for a long time it can be hard starting. I usually take a rubber mallet hit the motor to get it started then run it up and down a few times. If that that doesn’t start it I would call Latham they will walk you through testing it. 800 422-7267 ask for Tom.

What fluid should be used?

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF): DEXRON®-II / DEXRON®-III / MERCON® or equivalent
The red stuff? That's what I thought, but then thinking it should be something like hydraulic jack fluid, the almost clear stuff.

no, this stuff is not red...it is super thin and almost yellowish/clear

dang, i pulled that from the wrong Latham FAQ - I know I have the bottle on my boat, it was sort of hard to find and I needed to go to Granger I think, let me dig a bit more.

You should be using hydraulic jack oil available at any auto parts store. It is clear and light weight.

Thanks. I had picked some up this morning and added it. The lift is now working. To close this out, what I learned was one of the engine batteries must be on, not sure which, for the lift to operate. I charged them both, turned them both on, lift fixed!

It's interesting to me that an engine battery would be used for the lift, but I'm not an engineer. At the top of then 45 electrical panel, there are 2 voltage meters, auxiliary and generator. Does that mean neither measures the engine batteries? I'm thinking it would be good to have a measurement for them.

not sure about '12, but in '08 the starboard has to be on. my guess as to why they use engine batteries...the lift is similar in current draw to that of starting the engine, large amounts in short durations as opposed to the lower current draw the house batteries are used for.

engine batteries are shown at your helm via the electronics. unfortunately i've replaced all of my stock stuff, so i don't know exactly where on yours any more....but i would suspect they're available on any of the engine monitoring screens.

Right, good point- I'll look, shoot a pic and confirm back here.
