Cuda, I copied this from the other post, then deleted it cuz it was off-topic....but here's my response about the Merc II:
"Cuda, which component of the Merc II are you referring to, the Tranny or drive?
When I bought the boat, the upper bellows had split and the tranny sucked water thru the tailshafts, so before I could use the boat, the tranny needed rebuilding. However, my mechanic had a good used tranny he pulled from a repower, and I gave him $1250 for it plus the install. Since then, no problems.
He said the only thing necessary to ensure no problems is have him pull the drive every year for bellows inspection and drive pressure-test. This way they can replace bellows or seals before any problems start. Water is your only enemy to the TR II system......other than that he said the only other way to destroy it is by hitting a boulder underwater
I did have to replace the gimbal ring due to corrosion last year, resulting in poor steering, which sucked......I did all the dirty work myself (lots of hours lol, would have been $$$$$, he recommended I do it) and then had him do the install to save money."
