Handling ? running over 83 knots 353 fastech

You need a little more bow lift in the smooth water that Bravo 1 props won't provide. The new Maximus 5 blades from Merc should help out. Our 353 with 600's and Maximus props is fine in smooth water at over 90.

that is what I was thinking/ what pitch would you start at ?running 30 4 bladebravos now

the drives are toed in 1/8 inch all steering is tight new neoprene( probably spelled wrong) bushings
drives are straight ...no air

Magicfloat...........
??? I'm curious as to the speeds you had before going to the maximus?????

And what prop.
I've been trying to get more MPH but stuck @ low 80's
I should have the HP just can't seem to tap the MPH Julie @ TU agrees but gave no suggestions

Opie,I'm running Lab 31 5 blades, made from 32's. They worked better than 31's made from 30's,according to Formula. I haven't tried any other props, since this was the 1st 353/600 boat,Formula put about 4 hours testing props to get it right, these were what they came up with. On earlier 353's with 525's we picked up 1-2 mph over Bravos, with better handling. All 353/382's with blue motors are now shipped with Maximas. Also bear in mind we order most of our boats with Stellings boxes, not ITS. Robert

This is getting interesting since Opie and I have the same boats(272s) and very similar engines by different builders and almost identical speeds(low 80s). By all rules that are holy , even our unstepped hulls SHOULD be in the upper 80s consideing the weight and HP. Here's my dyno sheet from one engine.
PS the engine builder is a personnal friend of mine so I know there is no B.S. with the dyno sheet. We did , probably , 12 pulls to get theses results.

So, what size Maximus do you think on a 382 with Stellings boxes, 500+ at the prop (550+/- at the crank). Currently Labbed 28p B1s lots of slip 5500RPM/76gps on the limiters, 1.5gear ???

I'm not up to 80 mph but I got many laughs per hour with that electric fence video. Yea I'm easily amused. I will get lots of mileage out of that one myself. :D :D

I am in the process of putting whipples on a set of 525's in a 353 the boat runs 84 mph now on gps

has anyone put transom pickups in a 353 for water supply instead of the drives?

MOPOWER.....I know your results are close to accurate!
We both are real close to the same HP AND Torque, from 2 different builders and 2 different dyno's.
SO? Why so slow?
I see where others in 353 Formulas are faster with the same or less power.
I think it is like Reggie Fountain found out in the 80's. Some hulls will hit a wall on speed no matter how much HP you have in them. It just takes a ton more to push them past that point! and might not be safe to try?!
