Handling ? running over 83 knots 353 fastech

causin trouble

On days when the water is flat my 2001 496 ho procharged fastech does not feel real comfortable. seams like she kicks from side to side kinda like chime walking but only when the water is flat feels like the bow is running in the water heavy also ... running 4 blade 30 pitched Bravos , Hydramotive nose cones and billet drive showers. Trimmed up to get the mph not over trimmed though the prop won't break free. Talking to Formula the 600 hp 353 has the same problem anyone else have this issue? I may put some more hp in it to drop the drives in farther and keep the speed.

If I run in 3-5 foot waves (real 3-5 footers talk to any of the Poker Run Guys) on Lake Erie she just gets it man I don't have a worry in that kind of water.

Have you tried bleeding your hydraulic steering. You DO have it , don't you? If not that IS the problem.

I have a 292, and I have found that it doesn't like flat water.
It seems to like some chop, a foot is real good. Sometimes on flat water I have a tough time keeping it from porpusing.

Been there done that?  Not many run over 80 in a non stepped Formula.
But here goes......
1.  Air in steering actuators will cause problems.
I replaced 2 steering actuators and have the tail wiggle. Had a tiny bit before....
but it was a new installation. Now after replacing the actuators and
NOT bleeding the cylinders it is 10 fold worse.

2.  How tight are your connections at the drives
IE..tie-bars...Gimbel ring at the top and bottom hinge.  bellhousing at side pivot pins.

3.  Are your drives straight....toe-in.....toe-out........

4.  Hydro's are they bow lift or stern lift?

5.  Since you say you only have the problem when it is flat water....is that your Fastest speed.

6.  If everything is TIGHT.  I would try changing the toe-in/toe-out.  to a 1/2 inch toe-in
back of the drive wider than the front of the drive.  Then go out and play.
If this makes the handling worse then go back and go toe-out 1/2 inch.
See if toe makes a difference in MPH and handling.

Not that I KNOW what I am talking about.......but these are things that were suggested to me by someone that KNOWS about rigging a boat for handling and speed.

I have not been able to try any drive changes due to the below freezing weather in my area.

I know....."wimp".....but I hate winterizing everytime I go out ;D

I tried a copy of the video and got this answer.

getmsg.htm.
You cannot upload that type of file. The only allowed extensions are txt, doc, pdf, jpg, gif, mpg, png

I'll try this again  ???

No joy....won't allow me to upload.

Limit for posts is 128KB

File is 5MB.

It is only a 1 minute 54 sec. video!

You need a little more bow lift in the smooth water that Bravo 1 props won't provide. The new Maximus 5 blades from Merc should help out. Our 353 with 600's and Maximus props is fine in smooth water at over 90.

Opie,

I increased the limit for the video.  After its uploaded let me know please. I want to take it back down so we dont get spammed.

OK this is just a test to see if the upload will work at all.
Seems like it did.
I will continue to try

Or got gaskets for this "dog n pony show"

But hey I have trim limit switches in hand and they will be going on this time!!
