Generator?

I went to start the generator yesterday after running it this weekend and it would not turn over. I am thinking there is another power switch somewhere that was turned off. I looked everywhere. The pre-heat button clicked, but there was no power to the starter to turn over the engine. This has happened before, I just could not remember what had to be turned on for the unit to turn over. Let me know your thoughts.

generator should have it's own isolated battery i think?? never seen an on/off switch installed between the genset and battery either so i'd suggest you start by checking connections and testing the battery.

Yes, genset has its own battery which I tested and it is fine. Even getting a great charge. Went over the to boat last night and it fired right up. Nothing changed. Before it was acting like a fuse was blown because the generator did not even click, now, it turns over like there is no tomorrow. One of those gremlins that I need to find.

Are you starting from the toggle on the genset? Or remote from the cabin in auto mode. Has to be the switch being intermittent faulting or a rely. Sounds like to me the switch is getting goofy. I fired mine up last weekend for the first time in a long time then it would shut down. I forgot I closed the cooling seacock !

Starting from the Genset, nothing, no click or anything, anytime. Starting from the remote, sometimes perfect, other times it was dead as well. I shut off all of the switches on the remote panel and it started. It is not consistent. It turns over when it wants to. I will keep looking and keep you posted.

when it wont turn over, have someone hold the switch while you gently tap around on the starter with a hammer. you could also try wiggling wires behind the remote switch panel while someone holds the switch to see if you get anything. Gremlins can be a pain to figure out so good luck :)

That sounds like a great idea. I will try that and report back. Thanks.
