Funny Pinkish color on bow seats

I am ready to purchase a 2014 Formula 350 CBR this week and noticed that a pinkish color has developed on the top of the bow seats. After a little investigating I am told that this is an algae issue and that some Formulas had this problem. The boat is located in Florida and I would like to know a remedy. Any anyone else had this problem before? I looks like someone put a wet red t-shirt on the seats and the dye ran. Any help would be much apprectiated.

I wouldn't say it is a Formula problem as any boat could fall victim to this issue. The outer layer of the vinyl is damaged from sun, chemicals, cover rub or combination of. The only true "remedy" is replacement of the vinyl. Anything else is just a short term solution. Successful cleaning of the algae will involve harsh cleaners or techniques that will only exacerbate the problem.

My advice would be to factor the cost of reupholstery into your purchase price.

Best of luck!

I believe it’s called pink mold. And, replacement is the only remedy. But, it could mean replacing the inner foam as well. Somewhere, I heard the culprit lies there.

Thank you for your replies. It is hard to believe that there is not a product out there that can stop this and the only remedy is to replace the vinyl. That is very disappointing.

The best remedy I've heard of for the pink mold (and a lot of vinyl stains in general) to let the sun bleach them out. I'd be leery of using too many harsh chemicals (especially bleach products) trying to remove the stains, they can have long term consequences on the vinyl and stitching.

I am wondering if anyone here has used this product.

I’d also be interested. I looked at it, via the link posted above. It’s not cheap, an area covered by 50 quarters would cost $350 in product. They send a test cartridge, and if that doesn’t give desired results, they offer a refund. Still, if it did work, the proof would be in long term results. If it goes away for a short time, then recurs, you’ve wasted time and money. Hopefully, someone here has tried it.

100% right on....I had the pink staining on the vinyl in my Four Winns V278 and the sun bleached it out over the course of the season.

Fortunately no issues with my Formula.

Boating magazine or Southern Boating had an article on how to correct this. If I can find it I will send the link to the issue.
