Fuel tank sender 1997 Formula Fastech

I have just diagnosed a problem with the fuel tank sender on my 1997 271 Fastech with 454 Magnum engine. The gauge was showing empty when it had about a quarter of a tank. I traced the problem to the sender. When I connected the two wires at the sender (a pink and black one, actually there appear to be two black ones there, as well as the pink one) the gauge reads full. So the gauge appears to be all right, but the sender is evidently not doing its job. (I do not know if this is connected with the fact that I had to drain the fuel tank a little while ago. It worked then. But having drained it and having now put fresh fuel in it, it no longer works.)

What part do I need and does it have to come from Formula or is there a universal part that will work? I live in Australia, so if I know the details of the part, I may be able to source it here, rather than ordering it from the US. Any help much appreciated.

This company makes excellent products, and is great to deal with. I have used them for other than boat senders, and they will create anything you need.
You just need to do some measuring, and they will handle the rest.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I eventually pulled out the sender and it is a VDO tubular sender of about 370 mm. I am trying to order one.

I had a look into the tank through the hole where the sender goes and there is still quite a bit of rubbish in that tank. Any one know how to get it out? I have drained the tank once already and I thought I got it all out, but apparently not so. It does not look like you can remove the tank. Obviously the rubbish in it is the probable cause of the sender failing as well as the sender being 16 years old.

Does anyone know the ohm range of the VDO fuel senders in 97 year FASTechs, or the depth of the tank. Need to order a fuel sender to work with a new Auto meter gauge, so tank depth would be best, along with, is it a two wire or three wire sender, standard 5 bolt pattern? Not able to access boat, it is 3 hours away.
