Fuel Gauge Out of Calibration

I have a 1998 330ss and the gas tank is empty when the fuel gauge still reads 1/4 tank. We have changed out the sensor and the result is the same so it has been isolated to the gauge itself.

Two questions:

Does anyone have a quick fix of the existing gauge?

Does anyone know where a replacement gauge can be found?

Thanks in advance.

Do you know if the gauge is original? I believe the gauges for that vintage were VDO brand, but probably discontinued ( check GreatLakesSkipper.com for possible replacements)

Do you know if the sender is the right size for the tank (should be)? If the sender (tube type) were too short, then it would 'bottom out' before the tank was empty.

Thanks for the reply, Ted. Yes, the gauge is VDO. The condition did not exist 2 years ago when I bought the boat. It only developed at the end of last year. I will try Great Lakes, thanks for the lead.

Are there calibration screws on top of the tank sensor? Should be two of them.

Procedure is to empty the tank, turn the pot (calibration screw) to read empty. Fill tank, turn the other screw to read full.

It doesn’t take much to change the needle, move them slow.

Post a picture of the sender.

Dave
