Formula Blue Ocean LED Lights Are GREAT!

We order our new Formula with the Ocean LED lights in Blue.

We were out running in the dark the other night, and another boat we were with was in trail.

We turned on the blue cockpit lights, and underwater lights so besides the Nav lights, he had more to follow.

You can turn the boat with the blue cockpit lights on, including the arch lights without challenging your night vision.

What else was Way Cool, was the way the underwater lights would light up the boat wakes as we were running.

Everyone in the boat just sat there and stared at the lake.

Neat Stuff!

We to have the blue underwater lights, totally awesome. The talk of the dock when we have them on at night and all the dock walkers go by. Great when running too. The fish really like them too!!

Totally agree!
My SS has the blue coxpit lights and I get a ton of compliments, the only really missing item is the matching blue under water lights.

Been doing some research on Ocean LED & come to find out during our exchanges with one of their VP's at their production facility, they actually entered into a special relationship with Formula approx two years ago & even designed special lighting packages according to Formula's specs/requirements. Ocean LES is the only lighting being offered by Formula. Apparently they have some awesome credentials & are the undisputed leader in marine lighting. Found out that lighting is available for our '05 37 PC so may look into it the next time we have her hauled. How is the cockpit lighting? Is it only in the arch?

Hi all,
I seem to remember somebody doing a self installation on an existing 34 or 37 PC. I am interested to add these underwater lights this spring. I am not sure where the factory installed ones are located, but I was thinking a total of 3 or 4. One on each side below trim tabs and either one or two mounted on drain plugs. I would love to hear other's comments or experiences, thanks, Utah.

UTAH,
IT DEPENDS ON INBOARDS OR I/O'S. IF YOU HAVE I/O.S, YOU CAN PUT ONE IN THE MIDDLE, AND ONE ON THE OUTSIDE OF EACH DRIVE. OCEAN LED'S ARE THE BEST BRAND OUT THERE. REMEMBER, THEY DO NOT NEED WATER TO COOL THEM LIKE MOST OTHER BRANDS. YOU CAN RUN ON PLANE WITH THEM ON.

Hi Castines,

Thanks for the info, link and photos. Do you mean that the factory sent you a template on where to drill ?
How many LED lights did you install ? Did you just mount 2 lights ( one on each side of the outdrives) ? Or did you add a 3rd or 4th in between the outdrives ?
If so, did you drill a 3rd r 4th hole or use one of the drain plugs ?
How much time did you estimate it took you to install ?

Thanks again,
Utah

Formula did not send me measurements or a template. I am guessing that the reason is the hulls from year to year may differ slightly and they did not want to be caught in the middle. they just sent me a picture for reference. this did help. its very tricky to find the spot to drill so you dont drill into the stringer box or drill to close to the exhaust manifold. if you do this you wont be able to install the lights and will have a hole to fill in.

I went between the trim tab and drive on both sides. i may put one in the middle this spring?

install was about 1 full day, taking my time and you also need a buddy to help you out.

hard part is figuring out how you are going to put the nut on the shaft and tighten it with 2 big 496 big blocks and a hot water heater in your way. just try lying on your back in the bilge in front of the motor and try to reach the transom... ::)

Although the Ocean LED lights are great their is a tremendous alternate that I installed last year on my 07 31' PC.

They are made by KEP Marine (http://www.kep-marine.com/fishGlow-underwater-LED-lights/fish-glow-underwater-led-lights-.html).

I have Outdrives and installed the 1 small size Blue LED's (Model FGR6) on the outside of each drive and 1 middle size Blue LED (Model FGR12) in-between the drives. Not only are they almost 1/2 the price as the Ocean LED lights but they are surface mounted. All that you need to do is purchase a clamshell cover to go over the hole that you drill ABOVE THE WATER LINE in the transom...... I installed a 5 amp breaker at the panel by the helm (floor level) and a water proof toggle switch next to the breaker to control the underwater lights. The lights are good for 50,000 hours and like the Ocean LED lights can be run out of the water i.e., while on plane.

In addition I added to the Blue LED Theme by purchasing the White/Blue courtesy lights (Stock on the 08/09 Formula's) from :http://www.itc-marine.com/led.html. The lights were approx $35.00 each. I replaced the light by the aft refrigerator and the two lights on the transom. In addition, I put two in the radar arch port/starboard of the centrally located stock radar arch light. To make it look even better I replaced the bulb in center light with a white LED light bulb so when the lights are in the "white" mode, all three lights in the arch are the same color white.

Ah to be a Formulahaulic.....

Thanks for the lead on these, spoke to them today. Do you have any pics and where did you actually buy them? The very helpful person from ITC (the blue\white lights were not shown on the website so I sent an e-mail) provided the part numbers and some dealers but none seem to stock the bi-color LEDs.

I purchased them directly from ITC Inc. The gentlemen that I spoke to was Daren @ 616 396-1355.

The original item number was 69600 -SS (SS stands for Stainless Steel). The White/Blue LED lights were not on their Website however Daren hooked me up with them. They were approx $35.00 per light. I purchased one extra just in case.....

If you speak to Daren, tell him that Billy from New Jersey said hello.

I did not take any pictures simply because the light fixture is exactly the same at the one that came with the boat. It simply has both Blue and White LED lights in it which require one additional wire to be run from the helm switch to each of the lights

OK, great. The woman I e-mailed didn't indicate direct purchase was an option.

I was curious about pictures just because my 04 didn't come with the platform lights, and figured it might convince my wife that it'll be OK to start drilling holes in our new boat. :)

Just take her to a boat show and let her see the two lights that are in the aft locker on the swim platform.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. Wiring is easy from the engine bay......

Cool, thanks. We've been looking at the 37 for a few years now, so she goes to all of the shows, but still thinks I'm nuts. :) I was crawling under the platform at the AC show so I could see which and where the underwater LEDs where mounted. :D

I have an 08 31PC and the only thing I hate about the boat is the single light in the arch being a different color...never thought about replacing with a white LED to match. Where did you get the bulb to match, or is it just any bulb that fits?

LED's For The Cabin

Has anyone replaced their cabin lights with LED's? If so, where did you find them & how difficult is the project?
Thanx

I actually tried replacing them this weekend...a friend had a $17 LED that has the same pin (G-4) arrangement as the lights in the cabin.

All you do is twist the cover plate, use a towel so as to not touch the existing G4, and then swap.

Problem is the LED was way dim and really did not provide enough light. Plus at $17, it would cost almost $150 to replace them all...too much for me.

Guess I will stick with what I have.
