Enclosure Question

My camper enclosure has several glass panels that roll up. some of them have straps made from clear vinyl and some have straps made from 1" wide nylon webbing. Both materials leave chafe marks on the glass. Is there another material to use for straps that'll work better? Has anybody sewed a felt like material to their straps?

I actually have old cotton sheets that I cut up that I use when I roll up my canvas.... that's how I saw the problem but in theory thin felt would work fine.

I went to Walmart and bought their cheapest blanket - about $13 for a full / queen size. I layer it next to the isinglass before folding / rolling my canvas. Works like a charm.

I replaced my soft windows with hard Macrolon (do a search for my posts from a few years back). They look unbelievable compared to the .03 vinyl that comes with the boat. The man who made my new enclosure windows gave me soft-sided cases to slip my windows into after I take them down. I have a routine of taking the windows out 1-by-1, cleaning them on both sides, drying them, and slipping them into the case. Works very well and actually doesn't take me but a few minutes to do.

Make sure the isinglass is clean before rolling it and use any of the items suggested or a micro fiber cloth. I avoid leaving my isinglass rolled up and 'hanging' on those straps when under way completely. I lay them flat and out of the way down below somewhere.
