Electrical engine issue

I just started having a strange engine electrical issue. We spent the day out as usual on Sunday and when we started the boat to leave that evening, I got an alarm for a trim sensor which I acknowledged on the vessel view screen and then it seemed to clear itself. As we were leaving the no wake zone I then got a voltage alarm on the port engine. On vessel view it was reading only 12.5 volts on port and 14.4 on starboard. The port side had always read a little lower on start up approximately 13.6 or so but would climb to 14.3 after 15 or twenty minutes of running. Thought it was a little odd, but everything ran ok and didn't get any alarms so I just went with it. Running up lake, the highest the voltage got to was 13.7 volts. Back at dock in no wake zone, got alarm again. Was able to dock. I tried switching one of my house batteries with port starting battery and restarted again at dock. Within five minutes had alarm again and similar voltages. Boat is a 2016 330 CBR with 6.2 350 hp Mercs. Batteries are all intimidator agm batteries. I also tried using the parallel switch to see if it would equalize voltages. Didn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas? I'm calling local Merc service center today as it should be a warranty issue.

First thing I would do is get that battery tested even though it's new it could have failed.... the new electronics are hypersensitive to battery issues

As I mentioned, I did switch batteries, but you could still be correct.

Correct but those are two different battery types..... I always try to isolate the lowest common denominator so for sure the easiest thing would be to get that battery tested and then replace if faulty

oh wow... very interesting. I still think I get that battery checked just because if it's not charging ....it do weird things

Boat had been sitting on charger since last night. Going to go back and see if it's any different with the other battery still installed. Not too hopeful though.

Could the deep cycle AGM batteries that came installed in the boat be an issue? That is what all four are.

If the FACTORY installed that way, then this should not be the issue.

Issue maybe that these electronics need XX volts combined to work, so if you are DOWN a BATTERY and even though you can start, you still might get wonky electrical issues.

FOR EXAMPLE - my new/used 40PC was having similar issues, I could START by combining batts, but then I was getting a low coolant alarm...which was a error.

After putting in new batteries that I know worked (2 failed load tests) - my gremlins were gone.

They are factory. Not having any staying problems, even uncombined.

Check all your ground terminations. I thought I had a starter or battery issues and found two of the grounds behind my starboard engine almost ready to fall off. I was ready to replace both starter and batteries until I heard a spark next time I went to start starboard engine.

Couldn't see them, had to feel for them and tighten with socket. All is well again.

Good luck

I'd check all connections, make sure they are clean and tight. Grab a volt meter and check the voltage output on the port engine alternator, with the engine running. Voltage should be around 14-14.5 VDC, at idle. If the voltage here is lower could be a bad alternator or voltage regulator. If marine alternators are like auto ones, the regulator is built into the alternator.
You could check your batteries also, with engine and charger off, it should read 12-13 VDC. When you crank the engine, there will be a slight voltage drop, but not significant.
Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I updated my VesselView 702 Display (1.0 > v4.5!) and VesselView Link software (v52 > v56!) yesterday and it resolved a boatload of issues.

Namely, my gauges weren't reading properly and my fuel levels were jumping all over the place. After the update, everything is performing fine.

It may not be the fix for you, but IME with these terribly-designed VesselView systems, it might help.

VesselView, IMHO, is like the boy who cried wolf -- there's an alarm for everything and if I obeyed them all, I'd never be on the water.

Did you figure the problem out? I'm having the same problem on my 2017 350 CBR.

Trim sender is bad. Formula sent me one to get me through the holiday weekend. I simply unplugged the bad one and plugged in the new on and wire tied it out of the way in the engine compartment. Obviously, it didn't register trim state, but it stopped the alarm until the local Merc Shop can pull the boat and replace it properly this week.

Is this a brand new update? My dealer updated mine just before delivery in the end of April.

I'm not sure how "new" the update is -- but you can find out your current version inside of the Settings menu. If you're less than 4.5, then you're not on the current version. Mercruiser makes the software available (for free) on their website.

*This is for the VesselView 702 which I believe is rather new.
