Doggy ladders

Anyone boat with their dogs and use one of these boat ladders or something else to get the dog back aboard? The ones I have seen so far seem like they would take up a ton of space on the boat when not being used or would require a fair amount of drilling into the swim platform. Any thoughts on these or experiances would be greatly appreciated.

OUR FRIENDS USE A DOGGY LIFE JACKET WITH A HANDLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK. ITS TOUGH THOUGH LIFTING A WET 80 POUND LAB THOUGH.

That what I am doing now although he is still a puppy. Idealy though I would like some way for him to get himself back on the boat in case he falls overboard when we are rafted up, which we do alot. I figure it is a matter of time the way he is already jumping from boat to boat swim platforms til he is in the drink and someone doesn't see him.

Don't you mean when he jumps in! I can't go bass fishing with my Golden, he thinks topwater baits are a new toy for him to fetch  And he's lot of fun to get back in a fish boat with no platform. Sorry I can't offer anthing constructive, other than glad to see someone thinking about their dog, before something bad happens.

If this product doesn't exist, it should...

My idea is to have an inflatable type of pad that would stretch out into the water. It would have 2 tube style floats that increase in size as they start from the furthest end and narrow as they get to the attach point.

Different density/pressure air bladders would be used to asist the dog up the ramp until they get to a a "treaded" step surface that helps them make the final transition back to the platform.

Tethers would keep it pointing out the back so it stays accessible.

If that fails, and you just want to know if the dog went in, you can get one of those "turtles" they use for kids when they are around pools unsupervised. This unit sends a signal to a "base" unit when the turtle gets wet and activates a sensor in the turtle that the kid wears.

Hopefully this makes sense.

A guy we boat with here in AZ has a 37 PC and he has one of those folding plastic ramps he uses for his 2 Golden Retrievers. He attached 2 eye hooks that connect to the back of the swimplatform. He attaches 1 end of the ramp to the platform and it keeps that end in place. This end of the ramp is the side that sits high, right at the water line.

For the other end, he took 2 fenders and attached them with 2' of rope to a bracket that he bolted to the bottom of the other end of the ramp. This bracket basically makes a T at the bottom of the ramp. The base of this ramp on the fender side sits about 18" under water. The 2 fenders keep it really steady and the ramp marely moves when the dogas are on it. Doesn't really sink at all with a dog on it.

It works well enough for 3 other boats to copy and make the same thind he did. Sorry, I dont have pictures.

Google PawsAboard. The ladder isn't cheap, but it mounts on your ladder (down). It folds up for storage. It works fantastic. I have 2 goldens, which of course won't stay out of the water.

Actually, we have three. Only take one at a time on the boat and they're not allowed below. You don't know what shedding and dog hair is until you've had labs. They love the boat and it's hard to keep them out of the water. Two of them are accomplished duck hunters.

We're looking into trading our 2007 280SS for an 2008 31pc so we can have a weekend getaway. The only reason we haven't gone through with it (other then the economy) is our 14 year old lab might have a hard time joining us for an overnight stay. He still gets around ok, but I'm just concerned about him. If anyone has any experience with this type of situation and can offer some advise, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hofstet, that is a major WOW. We have one Black Lab and the shedding black wet hair on a white boat seems to be everywhere. I can not imagine what 3 labs would be like. I guess you must spend half your life vacuuming. We need to either find a black interior boat or a white lab.

Here is another dog ramp I came across, for a lot less money, although I not sure how effective this would be on a Formula.
