dealer prep

Currently in negotiations on a 2018 240 bowrider. Dealer prep is over $6,000. What could they possibly do to that boat that cost that much money? Having a tough time finding specifics on the internet, does anybody have details on what may or may not be included?

Unable to say, but dealer needs to pay the bills like all other businesses. A car company sells a lot of cars so cost get spread out a lot, boats a few. I can see several things that should be checked before handing it over:

Put some gas in it
Check fluids
Test operation
Unpack and clean
Check everything has been received

I would simply ask them what they do for that dollar amount...

It might be fluff, it might be legit....

When I bought my new 31PC (albeit 10 years ago) it was a bunch less, but in mine that included 200 gals of fuel - so...just ask them...and then we can help.

What AllDodge said, plus install radar arch/hardtop, connect and test all electronics in the radar arch/hardtop, bottom paint. That being said, it does still seem a bit hi.

Recently purchased a new Formula around same size and it is $2500, no arch. Includes all the USCG stuff and other accessories to get me going.

This charge changes from dealer to dealer, I know some that don't do it but most do. It covers shipping charges, prep as it adding oil, battery, safety equipment, cleaning.... basically changes that cover cost they have in dealing with the boat. I have bought two new boats and both had these changes and as tpenfield keep negotiating, some use this to fluff sales numbers. I will say 6000 is the highest I have ever seen.

Sales rep won't come down off the $6776.00 for prep and won't give specifics regarding what's included. She says it needs to be unwinterized and prepped........DUHHH....... for what it's worth, we had a terrible experience with this particular sales rep in the past. the boat we currently own, we bought through her when she was at a different dealership.........

Well they then dont want to sell the boat....ask for the owner.

unwinterize, if it wasn't so sad that would be funny. Open the sea cocks and fire the motors up. Sure sorry your going through this

Look for another dealer. You can ship from anywhere in the US for 1/3 of the dealer prep cost quoted.

Shop around, try to find another dealer at least to compare offers, 6.7K seems excessive for whatever work, if any, the dealer must perform before delivery. They get a sales commission, incentives etc. Giving you a boat ready to use, including oils, and every single system in the boat fully operational is the very least they can do for you. With 6.7K you can fill the hull with oil and remove a lot of plastic wrapping, just saying.

I am wondering if this is the same place that I am having issues with. RPM605 I see that you are on the Chesapeake, is the dealer also on the Chesapeake?
