Cooling system crossovers?????

Can anyone tell me about crossovers on a bbc?
I've seen pics of engines with no circulation pump on the engine. It looks like a sea pump runs the entire engine. How does this work? I'm wondering about doing this same thing in my 242 after I build this engine.

Are your sea pumps just like on any other bravo or are they flowing higher volumes than a standard pump.
I really never thought that a stock pump could circulate enough for the whole engine. That is not based on any knowledge or data just my own presumption. ???

The crossover replaces the circulation pump. I've got a crossover on my SBC and it has been working fine. There is more temp variation than with the crossover. The seawater pump discharge is connected to the crossover. I have a EMI with bypass. This will let water get to the exh. manifolds until the t' stat oppens. Some people run a restrictor plate in the thermostat housing instead of a t'stat.

I made an offer on ebay for a TRS/Bravo pump. The auction closed and I haven't heard back yet. He wanted a little to much on a buy now and I was the only one who bid at all. Maybe he will realize my offer was fair and i will still get it.
A crossover is coming with my drive and other parts to convert from an Alpha to a Bravo.
I'm tickled that I can get rid of the circulating pump and run the crossover. Looks nice too. ;D

You will lighten the boat about 15 or 20 pounds too. The only problem that you might run into is finding new belts that will fit to run the alternator and power steering pump. That took me a few trips to Autozone. ;D

Ok ;D I got the TRS/Bravo pump off ebay.

How much temp fluctuation are you talking? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

My temp runs around 140-150 while the boat is on plane. At idle speeds it drops down to around 110 deg. Some people don't like that kind of variation. Since the temp stays up at operating speeds and only drops when I am at idle I don't worry about it too much. That's my 02. You might check around on OSO for some more info. I have seen a couple of threads over there on crossovers.

Thanks for that info.
Those temps don't bother me much. I know that temp is needed for oil to work well on some surfaces but the cool is good for power.

I haven't looked at my OSO account in a while. Thanks for that reminder. I'll look there and read some more angles. ;D ;D
