Controls Merc

Can I easily take my existing controls to seperate throttle and shift using existing cables. 2001 Bravo III's

I have driven I/O's that way, but is it better with separte controls with Outdrive. Can you leave them at idle and bang forward and reverse with no issues? :-\

I have the separate controls on my boat and it is great, leave the the throtle in idle and just move the transmission into forward and reverse. It makes handling the boat much easier compared to having them combined like I had in my old boat, you don't have that rocking back and forth as you shift.

I love my twin sticks.......

I do have a transmission (old TR II drive), so it is much smoother "bumping in and out of gear (which works great when trolling Tube & Worm), but the Bravos & Alphas are direct drive...Bravos being better (cone-clutch).

That said a buddy of mine has a '73 F233 Center Console with an Alpha 1 and has Morse twin stick, and it works great too.

Yes, you can change it with the same cables. At most, you will have to change the pivots at the end of the cable for longer ones.

Do they make a set that will just about bolt in where my merc quicksilver sticks are withou much sawing?

I didn't have to cut anything. Just changed the pivots on the cable ends, dropped it in and screwed it down.

Before and after.

I have wondered the same thing but haven't reached that point yet.
Good question... and great pics from CUDA. I learned just what I needed for my stick change.
Thanks guys.

Cuda,

Whats a good place to buy them from? Also what did you pay if you dont mind me asking.

I'm gonna add that to my March TO DO list on the boat. Up to about 4K at this time.

I got a deal from a guy that had them for sale. He later told me he had misquoted me, but gave them to me at that price. I think I paid $550 for them. Check with Trick Marine for prices on them, or just keep an eye out on ebay and other boat sites for a deal. That's what I do, I guerrilla shop for parts before I need them. For instance, I just bought a top mount starter for my boat for 17 dollars plus shipping on ebay. Even if it needs rebuilt, I'll have less than $100 in it, and I like having a spare starter around. Last year, we were on a run with a Donzi group. Just before the run, I had a starter go out. We ran home, got the spare starter I had, then Debbie installed it in about 20 minutes. 8)

I'll keep looking. I love boat shopping, and parts shopping. Especially with someone else's money. ;)

I know what you mean , I found my buddys 91 242LS in Rochester NY last year.Being the nice guy that I am ,I even towed it home for him(6 1/2 hours each way + sea trial and all in one day)
Wow , I can still feel that one. On the road by 6am. Met the seller 12:30/1pm looked it over for an hour. Took a ride on Lake Ontario with 40 mph northernly breeze.Back to the ramp and haggle for an hour. Agree on price and do paperwork and hit the road by 6pm. Stop for dinner on the NY Thruway and finally get home about 1:30 am. God what i do for boating ;D ;D

Here's some fruit from my guerrilla shopping. I got this brand new Thunderbolt V distributor for $66.99. It lists from Mercruiser at $359. :)
