Clear Paint Protect Film to prevent tannin stains?

I'm fairly familiar with PPF on cars - I install it on all mine new on the areas that are most likely to encounter damage - front bumper, hood, rear fenders, etc.

Has anyone used this, or similar, on a boat?

Every season we end up with severe tan stains from tannin on the bay. Hull cleaner strips it off, but it's so ugly and a hassle.

If I were to wrap the 'bottom paint' areas with this stuff, or similar, etc... would it then not stain? I feel like 21 year old gel coat is a lot more porous than plastic film.
Anyone do a wrap below the water line? The sides/hull are awful by the end of the season.

thoughts? Worth a $50 test? I can always just peel it off then.

I can make this stark white with chemicals, but if PPF can stop it entirely?

it's a little late in the season, but I could clean a 6"x6" spot somewhere, put the film on, and see what happens. but I only have so many days left this season... but I guess that's better than installing a ton and having it not work.

given the timing, I may have to clean the boat up this fall, and install the test piece spring 2024, but will report back summer of 2024.
