Can we talk fires?

Cabin fires that is.....

My boat came with two Fireboy carbon monoxide detectors installed in the cabin. Although I understand that carbon monoxide is a bi-product of combustion, I have always thought it unusual that the boat did not have a smoke detector in the cabin as well, and that perhaps it might be an added measure of safety to have one.

That said, I am currently sending off my two Fireboy carbon monoxide detectors to the manufacturer for re-calibration/certification, and renewed warrantee. (25 dollars well spent) While browsing their website, I noticed they have marine smoke detectors as well, and was thinking about adding one to the shipment coming back.

Anybody else added a smoke detector? Is it overkill in your opinion, or is the addition of this piece worthy for the added protection? It's cost is minimal, and there is no hard wiring involved. It's a stand alone piece......just battery powered.

What say you guys?

As far as I am concerned nothing is a over kill when it comes to fires or carbon monoxide. All it takes is one accident and you will be thankful you invested the money. It is well spent

I agree it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to fire or carbon monoxide on a boat, my boat is 28 feet and I have 6 fire extinguishers and 2 carbon monoxide detectors one that came with boat and one aftermarket
I’ve seen a boat catch fire a very long time ago, but what stayed with me was how fast it burnt
Thank You for the article
