95 vdo engine temp gauge sender

Guess your looking for which sender is which, an sorry but unable to find that info. They can be visually known by the gauge sender has a single stud connection, the switch has 2 leads.

If this is not helpful then I'll leave it to someone else to try

This is my understanding as well. 2 wires goes to computer, 1 wire connector goes to gauge. (which is so stupid)... the gauge should run off the computer, but what do I know :)?

The 95 EFI motors used a MEFI-1 computer and they where bare basic computers with limited functions. MEFI=3 went a good step further, but it wasn't until 555 ECM and PCM that the computer started reading the temp (smartcraft)

Both are single stud and carb.

Then one is the gauge sender and the other is a switch that sounds the alarm/beeper

They started using the 2 prong switch later to ensure a better ground. Some folks when replacing the thermostat will replace the gasket with on which doesn't have rivets, plus there is always the corrosion thing

Do those little rivets have something to do with grounding the sender(s)? I can tell you I've replaced at least one sender with a merc part, does that help? I just looked up mine 87-86080 is the switch sender and 806490T is the temp sender.

Merc built the motor and VDO built the gauge. Any sender will work with any gauge so long as they are compatible (North American standard).
