496 Hours?

For those with 496's (either 375 or 425) what hours are you getting out of them before requiring a rebuild or currently have? Understand maintenance schedule and how hard you push it (average rpms) are contributing factors to their longevity. I'm in the market for a 330ss (375hp) and will go with the 496 option. Looking for some real life insight from those with the motor for average life expectancy. My general feeling is to get something with 300 hours or so on it, i usually put about 50 - 75 per year.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,
Only 30 hours so far on my new to me boat so no experience with average life before major overhaul. I am sure you will consider having an engine and outdrive survey/inspection done as a contingency of purchase. Regardless of previous hours, getting lab analysis on the fluids is a good idea when spending this much money. Any boat yard/broker/surveyor can get you leads on engine survey pros. There is just now way to know how many times the outdrive has been kicking up mud and silt or the engine run hard and put away wet...
Best of luck with your search!
Greg

HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR GASOINE MOTOR WILL JUDGE THE LIFE EXPECTANCY.
I HAVE WELL OVER 500 HOURS ON MINE, AND CHANGE OIL AND FILTER REGULARLY.
I EXPECT OVER 2000 HOURS, BEFORE EVEN WORRYING ABOUT IT.

+ 1

Leaking manifolds or something else with water or coolant in the engine will probably end the life of the engine before any internal problems happen

The 496 is an amazing engine and like mentioned before with required maint will go 2000+ hours.
