45 Bilge

Hello all, this is aft of the generator, under the flip up step, under the ladder. There are multiple drains, into this. Anyone know what drains into this compartment?

You'd have to follow the hoses, I think they come from the drains in the storage compartments under the seats etc.

Did you look in the aft cabin underneath the beds? When was the last time you cleaned the shower/sink/ac collection box? If the drain is clogged or the pump won't evacuate the box it overflows. I had the float switch go in that box and it overflowed.
My thoughts

Yep, sump is not overflowing. I’ll reach out to Tag, to confirm. My thinking is water, by design, is diverted there. But, I’m not ruling out other causes. I’ll follow up here, once I know more.

are you asking about the white drains that have nothing connected? or the ones with the hoses connected to them?

for the white ones...going to either side, it's just the bilge outside of the center line...the portion of the bilge that's under the engines.

for the ones with the hoses, they go forward to the compartment under the aft bed where they continue forward. one of them is to the grey water box, the other escapes me, but you could trace from under the aft bed.

the final white drain might go to the compartment under the aft bed as well. i don't remember seeing this though...

is your real question why is there water there? have you recently started using your cockpit A/C? that drains to the starboard side of the bilge, and would make its way via the starboard white drain into that area. so would any water from cupholders, etc., not to mention water from the cockpit floor, especially where the captain's feet are.

just some thoughts...good luck.

Those sources aren’t a surprise, yet helpful how you explained. My question is more than why is there water there; it’s that when I’ve got enough water to shop-vac out, my expectation is once the vac dries the area out, it should stay dry for some time. But, it just keeps coming, after I remove what’s there. What I can’t explain is why doesn’t it all come out at once, and cause the pump to kick in.

ok, now i get it.

the unfortunate thing is that in the 45, Formula doesn't believe in a dry bilge.

everything, and i mean everything, from cup holders, to cockpit drains, to the aforementioned cockpit A/C drains into the bilge. one thing that you may not have noticed is that there are also drains aft in that compartment. there are 2 compartments under the narrow walkway between the engines. they have drains that go both fore and aft, and the drains sit higher than the bottom of the compartment itself which means that they retain water no mater what. so, if you want to completely dry out your bilge, you have to pull up that walkway in order to suck out all of the water. otherwise, next time you're underway, water pushes aft, when you settle, it comes forward.

do you have water in the aft most compartment? the one under the swim platform hydraulics? if so, then there's a good chance that water is sloshing forward and aft based on what you're doing...

hope this helps,
tw

HA
For the record they don't believe in dry bilges for the 40 PC either

...good to know I’m in good company; and, yes Todd, always in area under swim platform hydraulics. If nothing else, it gives me something to do when I get bored, lol!!!
