I am seriously looking at the 40pc years up to 2008. I don’t want the IPS because of the additional draft. My current boat draws 37” and I barely get in and out at low tide. I churn and bump bottom but it’s a soft mud bottom. It looks like the Yanmar diesels have a shallower draft and less maintenance/cost? Any opinions on that? I am currently in a 36ft boat with inboard V drives. My current boat is just too slow. I cruise at 20 to 22 mph getting about .75 mpg. I like the idea of cruising 25-30 mph getting over 1mpg. Does this sound reasonable for the 40pc? I boat mostly in the upper Potomac River just outside of DC. Channels are well marked but logs are a major issue for bending props. I also boat often at night so spotting floating logs are more difficult. For that reason the IPS scares me more. Would love to hear opinions on both sides.
