34 PC's

Just want to get the general opinion of the board! I'm probably at least 9 months to a year in a half from doing something unless some personal things progress alot faster than planned! I'm looking heavily at the Formula 34 PC from 1995 - 2001 as my next cruiser..... Just seem kind of partial to those! I really would like to go back to Inboards rather than stern drive because of some of the conditions at our local harbors w/ an I/O sitting in the water, especially a merc. Just wanted some pro/con's feedback on the boat and I have yet to meet anyone w/ a v-drive version of this boat so was wanting some thoughts on that! The only thing I have seen i'm very worried about w/ that v-drive version of that boat is the engine room access!

Feedback would be awesome! Thank in Advance!

RIVERBOATER,
ONLY KNEW ONE PERSON THAT HAD A 34PC WITH INBOARDS. LOCAL MARINA MECHANIC WOULD NOT WORK ON THE BOAT, DUE TO HIM NOT ABLE TO ACCESS THE FRONT OF THE MOTOR. HIS NEEDED A CIRCULATING PUMP ON ONE ENGINE, AND IT WAS NOT ACCESSIBLE WITHOUT CUTTING SOME OF THE REAR TRANSOM AREA TO GET TO IT. OWNER LET IT LEAK.
FUEL MILEGE IS ALSO ALOT LOWER THAN I/O'S. IN MY OPINION, INBOARDS ARE NOT THE WAY TO GO, BUT THAT IS A DECISION YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE.

I understand all that and from a performance aspect I/0's make sense! But for how I boat w/ water issue's we have, plus the tight quarter handling makes me debate this!

Besides power anything else about the 34 pc should i be looking for?

I own a 1999 34PC with the Bravo III drives. I boat in salt and brackish water, with the PC sitting at berth in brackish water. These are the original drives with absolutely no corrosion issues. We just launched her for the 10th season. The gelcoat shines just as nice as it did when we took delivery in April 1999. We really enjoy it. We've been in some rough ocean passages 6-8 Ft.,and the boat really showed her stuff. The electrical system was a big seller for me. If you have any specific questions about the 34PC I'd be more than happy to respond to them.

We have a 1993 34PC. We are very happy with all aspects of the boat. Let's face it, its a Formula. Handles the bigger water fine, cruises the Chesapeake great. All the conforts of home. Ours is equipped with the 7.4's and Bravo II's. People have been on our boat and were quite surprised to hear that its a 93. It's in that good of condition. With the I/O's, you have quite a bit of room in the bilge, everything is easily accessed.

I think Formula stopped building the V drive version of the 34 PC in 1997. I don't believe there are many out there we might have sold two in the 5 years it was available. You might have better luck finding an older 41 PC. First year for it was 1995 and it would have been a straight inboard.

My 1994 34 PC handels just as good if not better than any inboard her size, turns better at high and low speeds. It has bravo III and it has no corrosion on it and is kept in a salt water bay. There are 14 zincs that need replacing in the spring and a little extra money for outdrive maintenance but the fuel economy may just out weigh that this year!

I had a 1995 34 PC V-drive..twin 8.2 L 502s..l kept it ten years and traded it for the 2005 37PC. I loved. It traversed the open waters of the Northern Gulf with ease. .It was kept in the brackish water of Lake Pontchartrain. Obviously maintenance could be done and was. It had to be a small person but even more so for my 37. Everything necessary was accomplished. When sold it was driven the 225 miles to Destin and is still in use there. I still remember all the good times we had on the 8000 plus miles we put on it. Maybe this owner would sell..I don't know..Saw it last spring in a dry storage marina in Sandestin. I can give you a contact number if you wish.

Folks, Formula has NOT stopped building V Drive Version of the 34 PC. All you have to do is go look on the website and you will see that its an engine option. I have the 2005 34 PC with the 8.1 Horizon Inboard / V Drive

jam73660 No one said they completely stopped building the V-Drive model! I'm lookin at 01 and older boats! The 34 PC built from 91 - 2001 was only offered with V-Drives until 1999 and then was discontinued do to slow sales. Yes it was re-introduced in the newer models again! Other manufacturers have done this two and the Stern Drive models usually outsell due to fuel economy! I just hate the way stern drives handle around the dock. and the corrosion issues that presend themselves!

RIVERBOATER,
I THINK YOU MAY HAVE GOTTEN SOME WRONG INFORMATION. THE 34 PC WAS AVAILABLE IN STERN DRIVE AND VEEDRIVES. I OWNED A 1994 34 PC WITH I/O'S.
NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY NOT LIKING HOW THEY HANDLE AROUND THE DOCKS. I COULD PUT A STERN DRIVE ANYWHERE. IN FACT MY OPINION IS THAT THEY HANDLE BETTER THAN VEEDRIVES.
FOUR PROPS GRIPPING THE WATER GOT TO BE BETTER THAN TWO.

I have a 1996 34PC with recently upgraded motors to 8.2HOs from 7.4s. It's a great boat. I keep it in salt water, and after having spend 12 grand to replace a pair of Bravo drives on my Formula 272, I went to inboards. The 4 blade props handle great. Our tide runs 3-4 knots and once you get proficient handling an inboard it's great. Backing is a trick, but discipline in not touching the throttles first works great. Somebody was complaining about access to the front of the motors. It's tight, but there is a walkway back there to crawl on and I'm 6 foot tall, 180 pounds and have done plenty of work on the front of my motors. I'm burning about 28 GPH doing 24 knots for cruising and the boat will do 34 knots fully loaded. You'll love the boat!
