I will be looking at some Formula 280 SS boats (1996 - 1999) over the next few weeks. Many have the 5.7 with Bravo 3's, but a few have the 4.3 V6 with the alpha drives. I am wondering if anyone here can vouch for how good (or bad) the 280 SS is with the smaller engines. I would like to do occaissional water sports and it would be great if I could get a wakeboarder up, etc.

also, 50 mph lus would be good on the top end . . . not sure if the 4.3's will do that.

TIA for any insights/experiences.

i don't THINK the 4.3's will get you the top end you want put overall those drive packages have an excellent reputation for economy and durability. others i'm sure will comment too.

Was the 4.3 and alpha combo the entry level package back then?

Obviously the B3 will provide more thrust, but as mentioned, the 4.3 and alpha is a great package.

The 280 was designed for a single engine application, but at least you'll gained increased maneuverability around the docks with twins.

Personally, I would rather have a 5.7 and bravo 3 combo
