26 PC Questions

Hello All,

Back in 1989 and for a few year I owned a 25PC and a buddy owned a 1988 26PC. We also had other friends with boats in that size range. Had a blast and towed them all over. Many times to Grand Portage, MN, couple of times to Copper Harbor, MI and twice to Key West. Many decades and boats later I have purchased a 1988 26PC with a 454. Spent the summer cruising some but mostly bringing the girl back to life. I know you folks will be shocked but the list is not done. Are they ever :)? I have a few questions that maybe some can help with. #1-There are two lights on the dash to the port of the wheel that I believe used to have covers so the lights only shine down helping preserve night vision. Lights work but no covers. Any replacements out there? OK quit laughing but wondering how others have dealt with this? Pictures on the internet show others with the same issue. #2- Neither wiper works. All my boats and friends boats have never seen a wiper not work. I have verified the switches are good but it was low on the list so didn't pursue. As both are not working will probably look for a ground problem next spring. Anyone know where the wires go once they enter the windshield frame? #3- I think I remember a step that you could fold up that was there for the engine room. Any pictures would help as I am sure I will have to make one as I bet none are available. #4-Performance and prop size. Again I have the 454 and was curious what folks have for a prop. Mine says its a seventeen but who knows if it still is. I will have it measured professional this winter. Again going on memory I think my 25PC had a sweet spot at 3400 RPM which was roughly 25MPH. Again fading memory but I think my buddies ran the same speed but it was 3800 RPM. Have many more questions but this is enough for now. One last thing IDCE HOLY CRAP AND WOW!!! Thanks all!

I can't be of any real help but to recommend contacting Formula (they're customer service is second to none). You can also go their website and download the 1988 brochure (under Owner Resources), it may be of some help.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. I did download the brochure but not much detail to see. I will call Formula at some point too.

Due to some circumstances boat work has been on hold but now back at it. Any help or if you have a vintage 26PC just say hi.

I just bought a 1989 26pc and picking it up tomorrow. But it does have the engine board. We will be able to help each other.

That is great news. Spring is just coming here so I am anxious to starting work on some of the issues. Thanks so much for any pictures or dimensions. As you can see there hasn't been much for responses.

I'm in Ottawa Canada, will post pictures of it has soon has I can and will give you dimension.
This is the one I'm picking up tomorrow, only has 544hrs on it.

I need some help from you please. The cylinder to lift the engine hatch was removed and i don't see where it mounts.20190407_151545.jpg

Glad to help. My boat is still covered but I will try and get in to it tomorrow. I did find a picture on one for sale in boat trader. It is the one in Marblehead, OH. I know mine was rewired at some point and they bypassed the switch that requires the transom door to be shut. Do you still have the lifting cylinder and brackets? Have you bench tested it to see if it works? I know mine is on the starboard side like the one on boat trader. Maybe you know this already but do not tighten the bolt at the top of the cylinder that goes into the female piece on the bottom of the hatch. If you do and the batteries die you will have a heck of a time lifting the hatch up.

No rush, I'm not putting it in the water just yet. We still have 2 feet of ice here.
I have all the parts and the braket on the hatch is stiil in location. I need to rebuild mine and have an idea for when the batteries are dead. Will do a few test and will let you know.

Went out and got some measurements. From the inside stern the middle of my bottom bracket is 22 inches. From the inside of the hatch flange the middle of the top bracket bracket is 8 inches. Hope this helps.
