252 BR speaker wire routing help (rear bench)

Ok last question (probably not)! Whats the best way to route speaker wire behind the gunwale so I can put speakers under the rear bench seat? On my last formula it had storage on the sides you could access to run the wires.

While I haven't tried this, based on having removed and reinstalled all of the seating in my 252, my suggestion is this:

Remove the factory installed speakers just ahead of the backs of the rear seats (assuming you have them). That will give you access inside the gunwale. It is a limited access, however, based on the size of your speakers.

An alternate idea would be to remove the backs of the rear seating, exposing much larger openings. [I had to look at the picture and re-think this a bit, thus the edit] The backs come off relatively easily. I do believe you have to remove the seat bases, however, to get to the screws. There are two screws at the bottom of the seat backs that go through L brackets. You can remove these screws and then just lift the backs up and off the upper mounting hardware. While a little blurry, you can see both the L brackets and the upper mounting hardware in the photo. The upper hardware is plastic, so be gentle removing the seat backs if possible. Motion is UP, not out.

Your remaining challenge is actually fishing the wires through at the port side helm. There is an opening there for radio wiring just below the helm. But, it's small and could be a challenge.

Good luck!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but do you have any idea how to access the backside of the screws for the tee nuts holding the drink rail? I'm not sure the '98s had the rail, but perhaps you know the answer.

Bomo, the 1998 model I have does not have a drink holder as you're showing.

My suggestion, as this appears to be below the throttle/fuel sniffer system, is to enter from forward and aft both. You should be able to remove a cover panel at the bulkhead inside the hold beneath the helm (that's a mouthful). So - stick your head inside the hold under the helm. Look in the back right corner. There should be a removable carpeted "cover" vertically located covering an access-way to the stern. Be careful as this cover likely is thin plywood covered by carpeting, which may be hiding a screw or two. Remove the cover, slither into the hold as best you can and with one arm, you should be able to reach in and at least put a wrench or screwdriver on the forward T-nuts. To get to the aft nuts, remove the speaker (assuming you have one mounted where mine is located in the picture above). You'll be able to reach some of the aft nuts that way I would think. Bring help. You'll need someone for the forward nuts at minimum.

Now, if someone knows how to get the darned throttle/engine control off...... Haven't been brave enough for that yet. Don't really need to yet either, thankfully.

Thank you. That's pretty much exactly what I did. All of the nuts (except the forward most one) were accessible through the speaker hole.
