2005 37PC - Can I order a new cockpit canvas?

2005 37PC I am planning to purchase does not have it's original cockpit cover anymore. All the snaps/hardware are in place though. I don't want to deal with taking down the strataglass (it's brand new) every time I use the boat so I'd like to keep the cockpit cover on it when I am not on it.

Can I order a new one from somewhere? I know I can pay a canvas shop to do it, checking first before I go that route.

Thanks

TAG has begun taking canvas orders again. Cost for my 31 is 2300 with a 10-14 week production. A local canvas shop seems like a better choice.

WOW....That is an insane price! $2,300 for a cockpit cover? Sometimes I am amazed at what they charge for stuff. I know the quality is pretty good but come on. I've contacted them a few times for various things but can't get myself to buy much from them.

Not accepting orders is a tough way to make a living

Here's been my experience (so far):

Tried contacting Ameritex all last year - never got a call back.
Tried the Ameritex online form - never been contacted.

Not knowing if my structure was original or not, I'm going with a reputable company for all new canvas, polycarbonate on the sides and the front 2 panels that I leave in, and everything else in 40 gauge Strataglass. Also including separate screens that zip in and out for the rear camper sides and rear panel.

Total price is $9,200. Seems high, but considering I've asked another 3 companies to provide quotes and they are either a no-show or decline the business, I'm kinda stuck. But like I said, it's a reputable company and I've seen their work.

Just sharing so that you may be able to gauge whether your costs are crazy high or not.

Thanks, I think the custom canvas shop quote is fair, and they do very good work.

Why polycarbonate vs Strataglass?

The panels that will not be removed frequently will be polycarbonate because of the better optical quality and the rigidity that is inherent in the material. You will not be able to roll it up and store it.

Strataglass in the sections that will be removed frequently because it can be rolled and stowed easier.

At least that's what I've found in my research... I'll know firsthand in a couple of months.

That sounds like a good plan.

The boat I am purchasing just had all new strataglass installed. I have always had isinglass on my boats so this will be new to me.

@knarfsson, I think I am hearing you state strataglass is easier to take down/roll up? I want to have smile zippers installed on the 3 on the windshield frame, no idea why they did not. Here's the boat: https://www.boattrader.com/boat/2005-formula-37-pc-7706392/

I am actually not a fan of either, I prefer a cockpit cover for when I am not on the boat and leaving all the glass down while on the boat.

My understanding is that Strataglass is much more flexible than the Polycarbonate.
Here's an article I found that provides a comparison of isinblass to Strataglass: https://chicagomarinecanvas.com/strataglass-vs-eisenglass/
And another forum thread on the same topic: https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/927515-eisenglass-vs-strataglass-vs.html

As I said, I'll know a lot more in a couple months. And even more after a couple years of use.

$10,500 for my 31 PC, full enclosure. That includes a new bimini frame. Not bad, not great, but its a quality shop that actually wants to work, so it's worth every penny.

If it's Seamark "Sapphire Blue" that you're looking for, it's not manufactured anymore. Sadly, no vender can get it to fabricate to your specs.

Thanks, it's for this boat in your area: https://www.marineconcepts.net/boats-for-sale/2005-formula-37-pc-portsmouth-virginia-7706392/

I am in Richmond. I don't need a perfect match fortunately. My goal/intent is to leave the strataglass off when it's not in use, and use a cockpit cover instead, so I do not have to take it down and store it when I use the boat.

Anyone heard any news on Ameritex now that it is 2022? Their website isn't any help and would like to know if we still have to go through Formula or use a local individual?

We are having a new enclosure made for our 41PC this winter. They are using Stamoid Top for the material as it is fully waterproof. We are using Strataglass 30 gauge for the clear portions. Across the front above the windshield will be 5 panels of Strataglass. The middle 3 will hinge up and zip onto the bottom of the bimini. There will be smiles on the sides and rear that will rollup. The enclosure will cost about $9800 and it is from the best shop in the area that does incredible work. They are also going to reupholster all the seats in the helm and cockpit areas. We will be using Sunbrella Horizon upholstery. It comes with a 3 year warranty against “pinking”. I don’t have the cost of the vinyl replacement at hand fight now but it was substantially less than new skins from Formula.

On our last boat we had polycarbonate clear panels fabricated for the front of the flybridge. They were fantastically clear and the visual acuity was unbelievable. They however do not roll up but have to also hinge up and store against the bottom of the bimini. What is really nice about having them store this way instead of rolling them up in a smile is that when they are up there aren’t any zippers and sides of the smiles in the way of your view.

I really love that hinging idea. It would likely prevent a lot of the scratches that occur with rolling and stowing. Do you have any pictures, even of your last boat?
