Hey Guys, I have a 2000 280ss with Bravo III outdrives and 350 mercruisers with 300hrs, meticulously maintained. Just noticed a little bit of play on the steering. My mechanic tells me the steering brackets from the engines are slightly worn. To replace steering brackets on engines to remove play on steering wheel he would need to remove both outdrives, pull both engines to get access to the brackets. Does this sound right? My mechanic is certified mercruiser technician and he's always done a great job, but removing outdrives and engines seems a little extreme and expensive. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Hi,
I did that repair on my boat this spring.

I used a kit from jrmarine.com to avoid having to take the engines out.
Take a look at the video on this page, tells the whole story.

I can recommend jrmarine, good service and easy to deal with.
(no association, me being in Sweden)
