Yes. when your lift the float switch it should start the pump. It will sound like a heart pumping blood. Its not fluid like a bilge pump. It sucks in segments.

It's must likely your float switch. Those pumps are bullet proof and seldom have problems. I have changed the float switch once and had to do maintenance to free it up one time. There is a lot of "junk" going through that box. Food, grease, soap, and hair sometimes builds up in the switches enclosure.

thank you ... I will have a look when I go down this week ... question .. if you flip your float switch do you hear it activate and suck up through the pipe in the sump box ? ... im thinking that my float is bad also .. wheni flick that switch it does nothing ..
